2003 Shift Cable Problem

Got in the ole girl this morning, grabbed the shift lever and had zero resistance and zero operation.

Pulled out the center console and got a good look at the shift assembly. The end of the shift cable slipped off the pin on the shift lever. I am able to get the cable reconnected but I have to hold it with one hand and shift with the other. If this is not done the cable slips off.

I don't see a clip or anything missing.

Does anyone know what actually holds the shift cable to the shift lever?

Yeah theres a little plastic bushing that goes inside the rounded end which then slides/pops onto the pin!

Shift Cable Easy Fix

Yeah theres a little plastic bushing that goes inside the rounded end which then slides/pops onto the pin!

Just happened to my 2004. Dealer of course sells the whole cable, but found a company on Ebay with just the bushing, they say they specialy engineered it to be better. Google: Toyota 4Runner Transmission Shift Cable Repair Kit w/ bushing Easy Install, FSM does not even show how to connect the shifter end, but it just snaps over the pin. Was able to slip it place to at least get home.
