2003 V8 4Runner ABS issue after motor replacement

Just replaced my abs motor and accumulator on my 2003 v8 4runner and I still hear the motor turn on basically every time I brake. Also every now and then it makes a chirping noise which I cannot get on video. I have bled the master twine and all 4 calipers too.

I replaced the motor and accumulator originally because I got a loud beeping in the cabin with lots of lights on the dash including the brake light. I replaced both with rebuilt eBay parts. Now I only have the VSC and trac lights on, but with the abs motor running a lot when I brake, and the occasional chirping from it I am not 100% trusting in driving it around much. I did get it up to speed and slam on the brakes a few times and it felt fine, but just not confident in it.

Has anybody run into this, or have any insight?

Please make your video "public" so that we can watch it.

It sounds like your braking system is losing pressure, hence the motor keeps running to maintaing the pressure. Any obvious leaks that you can detect? Perhaps park on four cardboard pieces under the tires and see if there are any wet spots?

You can do some troubleshooting using the Toyota Techstream software and connecting to the OBD-II port. You can interrogate the ABS ECU to see what's failing. You can also use it to activate solenoids and the ABS pump to do a brake bleed. This gets the air out of the ABS motor which is hard to do otherwise. It's a neat way to bleed your brakes because it tells you what to do and which bleed nipple to open.

I haven’t noticed any leaks. Just yesterday I reset the ABS and Trac lights and they have not come back on. I did a 60-mile trip today and the brakes felt good, but still heard the noise in referring to. It's more than just the ABS motor running. It has a certain "chirp" at the end.

I have the video set to unlisted now so anybody who wants to can check it out and give me their thoughts.

did you replace just individual pieces, or the entire booster? i had a similar problem at around 120k miles. making a squeaking sound. put in used salvage yard booster with 70k on it. issue went away. unfortunately, at about 220k need to do it again due to abs module issue.

i bet you didnt replace the whole assy, just the motor/pump and accumulator as you stated.

there is another element which fails and contributes to the leak/inability to hold pressure. its the piston oring assy, its best you change this too, or replace the whole mc-abs assy

I watch the video finally and wanted to make sure of one thing. Are you referring to the sound we hear after you step on the brakes? If so, that is your solenoid valves engaging. You should be able to feel pulsating sensations on your foot when this sound occurs.

Seems like you're ECU thinks your wheels are slipping on an icy surface so it is engaging one or multiple of the solenoid valves. This exact sound occurs when traction control kicks in when you're trying to climb a slippery or loose Hill. The system is trying to slow down one or multiple wheels so that you have steady forward progress. On the flip side, same system kicks in when you slam on the brakes at speed in order to prevent you from skidding and sliding.

Question is, why does your ECU think you are driving even though you're in park?

We can guess all we want but we need concrete evidence. The way to obtain this evidence is to connect to your ABS ECU via the Techstream software and interrogate that ECU.

If you don't have this software which can be purchased for next to nothing via eBay or some other place, see if you can connect with your local Toyota enthusiasts. Someone might have it in your neck of the woods and offer to connect to your ECU and pull some codes and look at the ABS ECU. Go to the correct section of this forum and find out some local resources.
