Just bought a used 2004 and acquired keyless remotes. I need to program them, anyone know the procedure? I want to go to dealer as last resort.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. Dealership wants $51.00 to do this. I believe I have the incorrect FOBS, because I followed this process and it failed at the time I was using the remotes. Online there are several places selling FOBS for less that $50.00. Dealership wants $150 and then charges $51.00 to program. Nice guys.

Those instructions worked for me when I programmed an extra remote.

I believe the FCC ID# for 04's is HYQ12BAN. I may be wrong on this though. Check to see if that's what your remote is, some of the older 4Runners have a different number and I think 2005's have a different number as well.

where to buy fobs

Anyone had good or bad luck with buying FOBS online?

ps This forum is awesome! Great information, fast replies to questions. Hope to contribute with answers in the future.

conflicting keyless prog. instructions

I received these instructions from a buyer on ebay. What are these instructions versus the one's above? Any help appreciated.

Step 1 - open drivers side door and get in your
vehicle.

Step 2 - put key completely into ignition, then pull
out.

Step 3- with door open, lock and unlock 5 times on
door console (ten clicks
total).

Step 4 - close door then open door.

Step 5 - lock and unlock 5 times on door console
(ten clicks total).

Step 6 - put key completely into ignition then turn
to the on position then
pull key out (you will now hear the door locks lock
then unlock a couple of
times)

Step 7 - now quickly press the lock and unlock
buttons at the same time only
for about a second.

Step 8 - then quickly press the lock button for just
a second.

Step 9 - exit car and close the door

After you do this you should hear a beep then your
lights will flash. This
will indicate that your remote is programmed to your
vehicle.

ps I've seen these instructions other places on the web under the topic of toyota keyless remotes.

Thanks Satman, that worked on my 2004 4runner with FCC ID: HYQ12BAN remotes.
Only thing different, I found that when pressing the lock and unlock buttons at the same time to synch the remote, I needed to do it for less than 1 second for it to work.

Thanks Satman,

Your instructions worked perfectly on my '03. Just had to buy a new remote (somehow a chip popped off the board inside my old one) and the dealer wanted $150 to program it on top of the $160 for the part, what a rip.

That's why I love this forum... ;)

Is this true. I have an 05 and the guy at the used dealership said he would help me out and get another remote for me. He send one in the mail and i went through the steps multiple times and it did not work. Could the remote i have be an eariler one. Is there a way to check the serial code on the back to see if it should work or not.

Thanks Satman! I bought an extra FOB from ebay and the instructions i got was a (*****in') website.

Programming Wireless Door openers

Here is the TSB from the 2007 4Runner manual. I haven't tried to use it but it is supposed to cover all 4th Gen models.
