2004 4runner sport rear turn signal light removal

It should be easy. We need to replace bulbs on rear turn signals. You remove the cover, reach in, turn the turn signal holder and it should come out. But we can't get the turn signal holder to budge and we don't want to break it. Same thing on both sides. We have the manual and are turning it counter-clockwise to remove. Any suggestions? Help!

It might just be stuck from all the years of just sitting there and not being moved/removed. I had the same issue. Just needs some extra force. Had to try many times before it worked. Maybe ask someone if they could give it a try?
