Newbie here - first post. Looking to buy 1st toyota ever, a 4runner. Want used (because of budget) sr5 4wd. Lots of 04s available and a few 05s for alot more money. Question is, is the 05 worth the extra $$ for the overdrive on the v6? Other issues and considerations also welcome. Thanks in advance!

In my opinion, it is not worth the extra money at all. You won't see better fuel economy or performance from the '05 V6 with the 5 speed automatic. Save your money and get an '04 instead.
BTW, the '04 V6 4 speed auto still has an overdrive. If I'm not mistaken, it is very close to the overdrive ratio of the 5 speed auto

I have the '04 with the V6 and 4spd. The tranny is the same that was used in the LandCruiser for many years, so this is a proven transmission. The 5 spd gives you a little lower first gear, and a little bigger top gear, but honestly I don't think you will see a big difference between the two. I'd say get the best deal with the lowest mileage and the best options.
