2004 questions

I have a 2004 Limited with Nav, 8cyl., 4AWD, XREAS, Etc. Questions:

1. On the driver's side of the dashboard, close to the windshield there are 2 cylindar-like modules sticking up, what are these for? auto headlight sensor? Nav?

2. In the two rear side windows there are in-glass antennas, one on each side, are these both radio, or is one GPS for the Navigation?

3. Moonroof wind deflector, I heard somewhere that when the moonroof is open, the deflector automatically adjusts based on the speed of the vehicle to deflect the wind, i have not noticed this, does it or is it fixed in position once the moonroof is open?

4. Anyone know of, or heard of, if there is an upgrade for the navigation system. The parts guy at the dealership, had no clue, and my dealer is the 2nd largest in the world.

5. Cargo net - I have the dual shelf tray storage sytstem in the 4-runner, the vehicle came with a cargo net, that seems very weird, it's not the puch kind that hangs up near the gate, but kind of lays flat on the floor, then hooks on to the knobs on the side panels near the gate. Is this how it is supposed to work?

6. Last qustion for now, in the storage well for the tire jack (rear left) there is a clear hose that runs into some other fitting, any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

One of the sensors is for the auto headlights. To my understanding, the other is for a sunlight sensor that adjusts the auto climate control system.

2. In the two rear side windows there are in-glass antennas, one on each side, are these both radio, or is one GPS for the Navigation?

I'm pretty sure they're not for the Navigation because my non-NAV model has them in both windows as well. Additionally, GPS isn't usually integrated into the glass.

3. Moonroof wind deflector, I heard somewhere that when the moonroof is open, the deflector automatically adjusts based on the speed of the vehicle to deflect the wind, i have not noticed this, does it or is it fixed in position once the moonroof is open?

I'm assuming you don't have an exterior moonroof deflector because those don't move. The built-in "internal" deflector will lower at 55mph and raise itself back up if speed drops down to 45mph.

4. Anyone know of, or heard of, if there is an upgrade for the navigation system. The parts guy at the dealership, had no clue, and my dealer is the 2nd largest in the world.

I don't have NAV, so can't help you out here.

I think the rear cargo system only includes the "spider" net and not the "envelope" type like you've noticed, but I'm not too sure since I didn't get this option. I bought the "envelope" net for $20.

6. Last qustion for now, in the storage well for the tire jack (rear left) there is a clear hose that runs into some other fitting, any ideas?

From what I've heard, it's a drain for the moonroof.

The grids in the rear side windows are both for the radio. Toyota calls it their diversity antenna system. They have different configurations and supposedly if one can't get a signal the other can.

You can hear the motor in the moonroof run for a second when the deflector adjusts. I think the way it works is that the moonroof actually opens and closes slightly to make the deflector move up and down a bit.

The cargo net you have is the same as mine. It's the spyder type rather than a pouch and I think it's the only one available.

I thought the hose in the jack area was for the rear window washer. But that's just a guess, I don't really know for sure.

I don't have the aforementioned hose but do, of course, have the rear window washer. So. I don't think that the hose is for the window washer.

Since I don't have a moonroof and also don't have the hose I think it likely that it is, as some people have suggested, a drain for the moonroof.

If you don't have the hose or the moonroof then I guess we have a definitive answer, it must be a drain.

I stand corrected.

I have a Pouch type. It hooks to the 4 notched round knobs at the top...and hooks to the cargo tie-downs on the floor.

I have both cargo nets. I have the one that lays on top of the double decker system and also the one that is like an envelope and hangs vertically.

The one that lays flat is set up correctly. I can take pics if u want...

1. On the driver's side of the dashboard, close to the windshield there are 2 cylindar-like modules sticking up, what are these for? auto headlight sensor? Nav? Can't answer that one.

2. In the two rear side windows there are in-glass antennas, one on each side, are these both radio, or is one GPS for the Navigation? Both are for the radio, the system selects the one with the best reception automatically.

3. Moonroof wind deflector, I heard somewhere that when the moonroof is open, the deflector automatically adjusts based on the speed of the vehicle to deflect the wind, i have not noticed this, does it or is it fixed in position once the moonroof is open?
The front wind deflector will raise and lower depending on speed. I believe it is up unless speed goes over 55 mph.

4. Anyone know of, or heard of, if there is an upgrade for the navigation system. The parts guy at the dealership, had no clue, and my dealer is the 2nd largest in the world. Nothing from dealer I am aware of, but there are probably aftermarket systems available.

My cargo net system came with two nets, one acts like a spider net, it anchors to the four corners of the rear deck to hold light things in place. The other is an envelope type net which stretches from side to side just inside the rear hatch.

6. Last qustion for now, in the storage well for the tire jack (rear left) there is a clear hose that runs into some other fitting, any ideas? As others have said, a drain for the sunroof. It should fit into a black rubber tube just behind the jack mount.

Thanks in advance.
