so my mom has a 4runner 04 v6 car has been parked due for me replacing all the suspension front and back, she did have a check engine on for downsteam 02 sensor i bought both one for the right and one for the left replaced and code went away. so i also ended up having to change the parking brake cable on both sides and all new brakes all around new rotors pads shoes and new front calipers when i fianly finished i had to get a new car battery cuz of the car sitting for a few months so i get one and now she has a check engine light code again p2195 and p2238 so i searched the web and ended up getting a 02 sensor and replaced the upstream on the drivers side. i didnt get one for the passenger sude cuz of the 02 being pricing and didnt think i would need one when i started the car up and drove it stalled on me and shut off after more rearching i swapped the EFI relay with the dome one and the car has not stalled but still have the codes.

could anyone please help me i had fought with this car for long enough and at a point where i am going to burn the car and my brain at the same time lol

i will read on it. today i bought a new sensor for the other side and the code hasn't come on so i was waiting tell the car warmed up and the rpms have dropped down to 413 and the car feels like it will stall when i put it in drive . i check again for codes and none yet but now having problem with the cars idle/stalling

i have done those steps

P2195 and P2238 refer to Bank 1, Sensor 1. On the 1GR-FE V6, Bank 1 is on the passenger side of the engine (where cylinder #1 is located). If you changed the front O2 sensor on the driver's side, you changed the wrong one.

It's confusing, because on the V8, Bank 1 is on the driver's side. It follows cylinder #1, and that varies with engine model.

Is there a way to actually test the sensors to determine if they are defective?

The best tester any of us own is the vehicle. The built-in OBD II tests and diagnostics are pretty sophisticated, and there's nothing you'll be able to do externally that will come close.

Usually if the vehicle says there's a problem, there is one. If it's not the sensor, it could be the wiring. In your case, the 2238 code indicates a problem with the sensor heater circuit. If that's not working, you'll likely also get a code for the sensor itself, since it's not operating up to temperature.

Here are the relevant FSM pages for the two codes you are seeing. Page ES-316 in the "...051" file shows some tests you can do with a DVM to check out the O2 sensor heater circuits.

thanks a lot i ended up changing both and the code hasnt come up but the car still feels like it wants to stall. when it starts to warm up the rpm starts to drop and car feels like it will stall when i put it in drive car almost feels like it will shut off when i test drive it and go to a stop it stalls out and i have to start the car up again and give it gas and try to make it home with out fully stopping

cleaned it. i ended up ordering a new MAF denso brand and new spark plugs and throttle body gasket and gonna try cleaning the throttle body. any other ideas if this doesn't work?
