2004 v6 4 runner

I want to install a transmission oil cooler on my 2004 V6 4 runner . I see a upper and lower oil lines going into my radiator on the drivers side . Which one is the return line to the trans ? Is this the line I would connect the cooler to ? One side of the cooler hose going back to the trans and the other side of the cooler hose connected to the radiator trans return fitting ?

The bottom hose coming out of the radiator is is the return line. That's where you'll hook up the hose going to the aux transmission cooler. Then the outlet leaving the aux transmission cooler will connect to the original return line to the transmission...

i thought all 4th gen 4runners had them. Or maybe its on the ones with the tow package. I notice an extra radiator on mine and it leads to the tranny.

Only ones with the Tow package....I could be mistaken.

Only the V8s had them from the factory. I just happened to find one off a wrecked V8 and it bolted right up to my V6.

Edit: don't want to spread misinformation, let me add, "I could be mistaken."

That's NOT true.

My V6 has the separate tranny cooler...It's a V6 with the tow package came the tranny cooler from the factory.

Sounds good. Mine came with the tow package and didn't have the aux cooler. So I guess it a draw...

My V6 SR5 4x4 has the 5000 lb. trailer hitch and trailer plug in but no auxiliary oil cooler . Maybe the V6 4 Runners with the heavier hitch do come with auxiliary oil coolers .

I've been researching and most advise bypassing the existing radiator oil cooler when installing a auxiliary oil cooler especially on one with quite a few miles on it (Mine has 118,000 miles on it) to eliminate the chance of coolant mixing with the trans fluid . Any opinions?

One more thing , I can see that my trans oil lines where they cross over in the lower front of engine are made of metal are pretty rusty so I was thinking about eliminating the metal portion of the lines and replacing them with rubber oil lines and fittings . I can't see where this would do any harm . Any opinions?
