I have a 2004 v6 with the dip stick transmission. 225k miles. I don’t recall if the transmission fluid has ever been replaced. Color of the old fluid was medium brown. Not black, not red.
I did a drain and fill of the transmission. I had read that the drain would result in 3.8 or so quarts. I carefully measured the amount drained from my transmission, 5 quarts. I refilled with 5 quarts. Shifted through the gears several times and checked the fluid level. It was about 1/2 quarts below the full/hot Transmission shifts like new.
(Now I need to replace the left front caliper, again. Dang pistons keep seizing. This is the third time in 25,000 miles. O’reilly’s rebuilt calipers are junk. Live and learn).
