2005 4Runner maintenance schedule?

I was wondering if I could get some opinions on what other's have done to maintain your 4Runner at 75,000 miles? I have a limited 4wd v6 and to date I have not had to do any major maintenance? This vehicle has been great with very limited maintenance.

So far I have done this since owning it at 2000 miles.

1. Changed the differential fluids, including transfer case ever 30,000 to synthetics
2. Changed the plugs every 30,000
3. Greased the drive shaft every 30,000
4. Switched to K&N air filter and clean when it needs it.
5. Changed the cabin air filter ever 15,000-20,000 or when it looks dirty.
6. Changed the rear brakes w/Rotors (Brembo) because of a high pitch squeal and not because they were worn out. The squeal came back within about 35,000 miles. I STILL have the original front brakes and the dealer said I still have plenty of wear? This amazes me... Front rotors were shaved 1x.
7. Changed oil to full synthetic and change it at ever 4000-5,000 miles
8. Rotate tires ever 6,000 miles
9. Wax it every 4 months

I've been reading a few sites on other maintenance and I just don't want to throw money away on things that I think need to be done, but these come to mind...

1. The dealer says the transmission is sealed and the fluid does not need to be changed? This still has me concerned though.
2. The drive belt has not been replaced yet, should it be? It does not appear to be cracked.
3. The front brakes will eventually wear out and I'd like to put a decent set of rotors and pads on there. I have been thinking about placing cross drilled or slotted rotors on the front only because at high speeds I can feel the front shake a little when pushing on the brakes hard right now. Only does it when I'm slowing down from high speeds.
4. The antifreeze is good for 100,000 miles, but I feel like I need to change it now at 75,000?
5. What about the valve adjustments?
6. Fuel filter changing?
7. Throttle body cleaning?
8. Brake fluid change?
9. Water pump?
10. Timing chain?


Other than that it's running great and I just don't want to throw money into it if things don't really need to be changed. Keep in mind I drive mostly highway and no towing.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

7. Throttle body cleaning? It won't hurt a thing and at 75k it's probably got some slime on it. I did mine a while ago and it was dirty. (I am 75k now).
8. Brake fluid change? I say every 3-5 years regardless of mileage.
9. Water pump? I will probably do mine at 120k-150k. The goal will be to get to it before it fails but not throw money away either.
10. Timing chain? I won't even give it a thought until 250k.



Other than that it's running great and I just don't want to throw money into it if things don't really need to be changed. Keep in mind I drive mostly highway and no towing.

I would have it changed. **(It's interesting you say this because I can't find where it says to change it or other things you mentioned on Toyota Parts and Service. By no means am I doubting what you say because I'm used to doing these things to maintain the vehicle, I'm just wondeirng why they don't mention these things on the maintence intervals?)

I am having a hard time finding just slotted at a decent price as I don't want to pay more than $100/each rotor)

(I am 75k now). **(I have heard from some that they don't do this at all, the dealer tried to get me to do it at the recent checkup for about $90 and I declined at that time)

With regard to the transmission service: If you select the 60k or 120k interval on the Toyota site and then scroll doen you'll see a note. The note says to change it if you tow. That's the only reference Toyota offers to actually changing the trans fluid. Over at the FJC board they all seem to do 45k-75k. They tend to 4 wheel a good bit which stresses the trans more than normal suburbia. In my mind, if you're shooting for maximum life, maintaining it as if it towed is the right answer.
