2005 4runner remote starter kit

hi,

I just purchased a 2005 4runner sport limited edition and was looking into getting a remote starter kit. The 2005 comes with the factory standard keyless entry and panic remote. I was wondering if I can get a remote starter kit installed utilizing the factory standard remote or do I need a whole new remote ... that would be pretty troublesome to have two remotes on a keychain.

If I have to get a whole new remote for the remote starter kit, any suggestion as to which one is the best for a 2005 4runner?

thanks.

They don't make one that works with the factory remote. The only factory remote start all in one remote is the Malibu Maxx. I like my Viper 791XV, it has an alarm/keyless/Remote Start, plus is a 2 way paging system, so you get visual confirmation that someone is breaking in, or if its started, etc. Pretty good range too. $500 at BestBuy...but you'll need a few other parts because your key has a chip in it. Hope that helps!!
Brett.

I just had a Clifford rsx3.5 installed Saturday, it is the exact same as the Viper 791xv. It is awsome, but very expensive.

Good Luck!

I have an Audiovox remote starter. It is a small, one button remote that is very convenient. I don't think you will be able to find a remote starter that works with the factory remote. Once the truck is running, the factory remote is disabled. If I don't unlock my truck before I start it, I have to use the key to get in.

If you are having somebody install it, make sure they are a reputable installer. I had the dealer install it (they have an outside company come in) and they ended up messing up. Let's just say my truck got stuck and I learned the hard way!

Also, you'll need to give up one of your ignition keys (can be the valet) to be put in a by-pass module for the remote starter.

I ended up getting another key cut/programmed at my dealer for $60. If you ever loose all your original keys, the process of recoding the system is very very expensive.

I have the Viper alarm/auto start and truly love it thus far!

hey I'm a mobile electronics installer and I do alot of the remote starts.

There is no real way to make the car remote start with the original keypad. Reason why is that the brain is wired in with the BCM, and it's difficult to get a signal from that when you hit one certain button and send an input into the new aftermarket brain.

Like what most of the people have above,

The Viper 791 XV
Clifford RS 3.5

Are top of the line..... if your looking for keyless entry and remote start

Viper 160xv

The audiovox is decent, however when you want to add to the system it's quite a pain and expensive.

You need to lose a key, I usually use the valet key. So I still have two black keys. You need a bypass... with the directed electronics bypass it's 556U.

At best buy. The extra stuff plus the bypass is gonna cost you about 100 dollars extra. So tack that onto whatever remote start you are getting.

Good luck!

Hello all
I have a remote start for 2 years now that works off my factory remote. I hut unlock twice and the truck starts. Yes I know this leaves my doors open but what can I do. I had the bcm reprogramed by my dealer buddies so all 4 doors unlock on the first click of the remote. So it can be done. Have it for 2 years.

Didn't I see someone getting this a while back? I thought that the thread mentioned that they could program it to roll up your back window as well?

$249 uninstalled, but it's what I'm getting when they finally get their new version done. I've been in communication with them for months now and just heard from them 2 weeks ago - still in the final testing phases.

The best part is that it uses the factory remote, plus it leaves the vehicle locked. Press lock 3x and vroom!

But the website says Toyota Tundra, will it program the 4gen 4runners. I know i'd be interested in getting one. :bash:

Problems with remote start - Astro?!

Has anyone had any problems with their remote starts? Especially Astro brand? I have a 2005 SR5 4Runner and got an Astro 2WA paging alarm, remote starter. I seem to have a very competent installer who has worked diligently with me, but the darned thing doesn't work right. It will start the car about 60% of the time, but about 40% it will crank for 10 or 15 seconds but not ignite. But, the car does start with the key.

Nobody mentioned Autopage yet...I have been very happy with my autopage system sounds like it has all the same functions as the vyper and clifford mentioned above. I would recommend using an aftermarket alarm over a stock one any day and always have an alarm that pages you when someone sets it off...has saved my butt a few times.

I work in a hospital and can start my truck from my floor when it's parked in the parking garage...very good range! Plus it's fun to freak people out who may be standing near it...:) Also the vehicle stays secure while started no problems with having doors open etc like someone else mentioned. Oh and while the stock alarm still works in mine I just don't carry the remote with me..no point.
