2005 4runner sr5 double din question

OK, I have a question.
Here is a pic of the stock radio..

So, the stock trim part angles in towards the radio face.

Here is the trim/install kit I bought.

How the heck is this supposed to work when the original trim is part of the bezel? [MENTION=5149]riceandpho[/MENTION] What am I missing here?

Does this install behind the angled part? Seems it will look a bit wonky this way.

thats the wrong kit, you have the base radio opening. just use the metra 95-8202 with the factory brackets. for double din install. the kit you have there is the jbl equipped, also the climate control has that extra piece on top.

Guess I need to order another kit. out: Wish they didn't make this so difficult.

BTW, do you know if I will need to use a micro bypass on a Kenwood DNX574s with the Maestro rr and the TO1 wire kit?

im not sure, i think kenwood you can just ground the parking brake wire, try it first.


now with that harness, there some wires that is not needed. i choose to do hardwire, but that harness, i would remove whats not needed.

pretty sure if you made an idatalink account, itll give you some info on the wiring, but also its important to flash it correctly.

Not a bad idea to check places like pick a part or wreckage yards for brackets or whatever other trim parts you might need! Half the time they don’t know what it is, so you get it for cheap!

Good idea to remove what's not needed from the T01 harness ... I know that with my Pioneer there were several plugs/wires not used, and with the Maestro RR and harness there isn't much room behind the head unit. Maybe removing some will help in that regard.

I will say this ... from a non-professional installers point of view, the wiring information provided by iDatalink is helpful, but still pretty confusing. It's not exactly intuitively obvious.

My headunit came today. May start on some of the wiring tomorrow while I wait for the Metra kit to show up. I will look into the wiring and see what I may be able to get rid of from the TO1 kit. Thanks for the suggestion [MENTION=5149]riceandpho[/MENTION].

Big box came from Amazon today, the only delivery I was expecting was a Metra 99-8300 kit so I hadn't got a clue what this was.

Ripped the box open and inside was a big plastic bag with Metra on it. It's a lot of kit for $16, Best Buy guy will be shocked when I drop it off.

Here it is next to the 95-8202

95-8202 is not needed anymore, but keep it tho, look for the factory brackets and try to use them. i havent seen the double din install with the new 99-8300 kit, i just didnt like how it looked when i try the single din and pocket install.

I seem to recall reading of people having issues with signal/reception when switching to the single ant. connection on an aftermarket HU.

if this is just a radio install, the factory antenna turn on wire on the harness, its usually blue, you take that wire and wire it together with the red which is the acc turn on. now on the aftermarket radio harness behind the radio, tape up the blue wire, or use that wire only to trigger the aftermarket amplifier if installing those.

for antenna plug, you can just use that single one and tape the small unused one, or get the gm antenna adapter and install the motorola Y .

now radio reception can be a hit or miss these days due to alot of wifi signal and cell phone signal interference. if your radio has hd radio use that. sound is really like cd.

I have this kit, and it has by far the worst instructions for any product I have ever seen. Do you happen to know how to install it? Do I really cut off lie 90% of the other brackets?

I'll be installing an aftermarket HU in my 09 soon. I am hoping to get a wiring harness adapter, but alot of the ones I see on ebay have the listing compatibility go til 2007, not including the 2009 model year. I'm wondering if they would still work and the listings are wrong?

Just a warning. When I did my aftermarket headunit install, I found there wasn't a ton of room behind there for wiring adapters and so forth. You can make your life easier if you find a shallower headunit that otherwise meets your needs.

so its time to retire my faithful pioneer avhp4400bh double din headunit, the scrren is now very dim, and almost useless for reverse camera. read up on changing the screen and its a lil beyond my current skillset...so am looking at some chinese models with 4g and wifi, but comes in 9,10 and 11 inch....am unsure if 9inch would fit, as the outgoing pioneer was 7invh.


so could anybody confirm if a 9inch HU will fit the 4th gen runners
