Hello all!

I just picked up my 4runner today (11-22-13) after selling my 2011 Duramax. I'm starting this thread so people can see what I'm up to. I'll be working on it here and there so stay tuned!

Truck:
2005 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V8 (4WD)

Tow Hitch Removal​

Reason: I don't tow and this thing is a rust magnet. (I will be cleaning the tie down hook and re-installing it)

Progress: Incomplete.

Floor Mats​

Reason: I bought my truck used and it didn't come with any floor mats.

Progress: Complete!

Penetrating blaster (PB) is your friend. 5 bucks a can at home depot. I'd start spraying before you mess with any other bolts.

Thanks! I've heard of the stuff before. I'll stop buy Lowe's tomorrow and pick up a can. Also, I pulled my CB out and put it up against the pocket below the temperature controls just to get an idea and it may work. Of course, a custom bezel or face plate will need to be made but if there is enough room behind that little compartment I will start trying to rig something up.

So, it's been a busy few weeks with school wrapping up for the semester. My suspension plans are on hold for now. I am ordering brake components, wheels, and tires.

Brake Rotors
- I just placed an order for 4 Centric Premium Rotors (319mm) - $200.00

Brake Calipers
- This is driving me nuts! It seems like there is no good solution to the seized caliper problem. I've read countless threads and reviews and I think I am just going to go to NAPA and get their remanufactured ones. Unless, anyone has any opinion on NHT calipers.

Brake Pads
- I will be ordering OEM pads.

Brake Lines
- I will be ordering Stoptech Custom Fit Stainless Steel brake lines.

Tires
- Not sure yet. I want the off road look but I drive on pavement 99% of the time so I want something practical.

Wheels
- Thinking about going with SCS's F-5 wheel but I can't find any 4th gen owners running these, let alone any 4th gen owners running 16'' wheels. I don't want to go to 17'' wheels.

Any help/advice/random comments are appreciated

Everything on the list looks good so far, right down to the Napa remans. , Tires? I just bought my Grabber AT2s and I love them as we have had some snow/ice and it did beautifully( As did my 3rd gen with GY Wranglers AT/S)...
Wheels on the other hand are something subjective which can bring a lot of debate... :lol: Do a lot of searching/Googling and check out everyone's build/picture pages for wheel decision.. Good Luck Mark!!! :yo:


PS: Don't forget that PB Blaster.. Especially in the winter...

Right under my nose the whole time! I like the 16's because there seem to be more tire options out there. I'm going to see if the NAPA by me is open tomorrow and check out what they got in the way of calipers.

Yeah, in my build, It's the second rear quarter picture (As the first is with the old tires) but I'll post one or more from different angles if you wish..

Well I received my rotors today.

Still waiting on my Stoptech SS lines and my pads and I still have to run by NAPA to get 4 new calipers.

Then my F-5 wheels from SCS!

Iphone charger/adapter removal

Reason: Previous owner installed the wiring to charge/play an Ipod and I want it out of there because I have an Android phone and I'm contemplating picking up a Parrot Asteroid smart system to replace my stock radio.

(These wire clips were difficult to remove correctly but with some patience I got them out of there without messing up any factory wiring)​

Well I just placed an order for my White Knuckle Off-road sliders! Should be here in a few weeks!

Also, I finished removing the rest of the trailer hitch pieces (rust bucket) and did some rust proofing on the rear end.

If you plan on getting skids in the future, may want John @ WK to mount the center leg further back. I had him do this to fit my RCI transfer case skid and it fits like a glove.

I actually read your post about how you had to have the sliders modified for the skids several times when I was doing my slider research. I thought about it and I'm not going to throw skids on her. She may see some light dirt from time to time but more of a DD

Did he charge you extra for the modification? And is it just as sturdy?

He didn't charge a cent more! I believe he builds them all to order so I just gave him the new spacing requirements and he built them to those specs. And yes, they're just as sturdy (in my opinion with no scientific backing). In fact, I think the center leg is more equally spaced now.

Now you got me second guessing myself haha. I'll give him a ring in the AM and get it changed up if it's not gopnna cost me anything more.

Do you buy chance have HID's in your reflector housings? Where are you in STL? Because I believe I may have seen you around a couple times.

No, no HID's for me. I live in the Maryland Heights Area. I keep seeing a Gold 4th gen around me with some platidip and what looks like a yakima basket on the roof. I always wonder who that is.
