2005 Intake Question

I have done a lot of searching so please dont tell me to go do that...

I have an 05 V8 and I want to get an intake, specifically the K&N aircharger kit. Does anyone with an 05 have an intake on yet? I didnt know if having the VVT made a difference as to whether the intake would fit or not. Thanks.

Run it by your dealer and see if they will honor your engine warranty after this mod? I can tell you that it will not improve performance and may add contaminates to your engine, not worth the money or risk. JMHO

If you have problems while your vehicle is under warranty the dealer can blame any mod you have made to the engine and void your warranty. You can get a lawyer and fight it but it will cost you time and money. Plus these after market air filter systems are not worth the $$$. But its your vehicle, do what you want.

By law, Toyota will have to prove that the mod caused the failure. Just because there was a mod doesn't automatically give the right to void the warranty.

What I've seen with most warranties is that the vehicle can't be "modified" also you have to use the spec's of fluids recommended. Like API, etc. So if you come into the dealer with say a Dodge Cummins turbo diesel and they can tell you "chipped" your ride they void your drivetrain warranty, period end of discussion. If you put a supercharger on your engine and your transmission failed they could/would void your warranty. They don't have to prove the super charger damaged the transmission, you modified the engine that increased the stress on the transmission and it failed. You could get a lawyer but I doubt you would win. This is what I've seen happen. A word to the wise, if you want to modify your rig that's great just know that you also modified your warranty coverage

Well, to avoid all that business, I just swap out my intake whenever I go into the dealer Better safe than sorry.

Get a TRD intake filter TRD modifications retain Toyota's warranty right? Insn't that why TRD is "associated" with toyota?

I guess my 4Runner is out of warranty already...

1. They may claim that any gasoline other than the original tank voids the warranty

2. They could claim it isnt OEM air in my tires

3. And i'm totally done for if it isn't TRD antifreeze or windshield washer fluid

hehehe Sorry for bein sarcastic, but I want to do things to my 4Runner, If something fails that isnt realted to any mod I've done, I will expect it to be under warranty and I will fight for it if I have to. If something screws up and it IS because of a mod I did, then I wouldn't expect them to pay for it.

I know people that are convinced that they must take their car to the dealership that sold it to them for every service listed in the manual or the warranty is void.

I bought my 4Runner to enjoy it...and i will! But then again, I dont have a wife/kids, and I'm not in a situation where I HAVE to have THIS vehicle running 100% of the time (I have other vehicles to drive if I need to) So I do understand if people are worried about voiding the warranty.

I think that is the best way to look at it. I have a 350Z and there are guys that have super chargers on them and then blow the transmission and the dealer honored the warranty and replaced the transmission and then others where they didn't. If I SC'ed my Z and the trans blew I would not expect to have a transmission failure covered. Some people think it should be covered.
