Hey everyone,
So I am looking to install one of these in my 4Runner.
Big Sky Rack
Here is my situation. I would like to mount this on the roof of the 4Runner. I would need to go thru the headliner and into the reinforcing cross members along the roof.
I'm assuming those cross members are every "X" inches along the roof like a house built with 2x4's are. I have seen a few pix of headliners being removed and can see those metal cross members, but again, it would require removal of the headliner to measure exactly how far apart they are.
My other option is to mount this rack on the interior back panel of the hatchback. This seems like it would be an easier mounting option seeing as I would just need to pop the back panel off and mount accordingly. However, quick access to the firearm is the key factor here. A roof mount would be quicker to get to vs. me having to exit the vehicle and accessing from the back.
My question to the all-knowing 4Runner gurus here is, is there a way to locate those cross members without tearing out the headliner and possibly interfering with the SRS Curtain Airbags that are equipped on this vehicle (i.e vehicle build diagram)?
Any input(TRY to keep the jokes civil)/mounting ideas are appreciated!
