2005 Sport 4Runner with 33 inch tires wants to recalibrate speed sensor

I have just lifted my 2005 Sport 4Runner 4.7L V8 4 1/2 inches {3" Cornfed suspension and a 4Crawler 1 1/2" body} and installed BFG 285/70/17's on Incubus 17x9" rims. The speedo is now "off" by approx 7%. I now would like my ECM to know what speed that I am REALLY traveling for purposes including but not limited to: speedpmeter accuracy, odometer accuracy, mileage computer accuracy, transmission shift points, fuel/air mixture, anti lock braking {I am not sure but this may have its own input from each wheel independent of the speed sensor}, skid control, etc. The only mods that I can find are UNI CHIP's, and it is priciy at $900 but makes for all kinds of tweeking ability and Dakato Digital has a device for $79 that installs bewtween the speed sensor and ECM that just changes signal through the setting of dip switches. No one else covers the new in 2005 4.7L V8.

My questions are these if anyone is good enough to have some info:

1. Where is the speed sensor on a 2005 with a 4.7L and what color wires control what?

2. Does the speedo being "off" effect anti-skid and AVS or do they get there inputs somewhere else like at each wheel and would that info be accurate with the larger tires if it is taken at each wheel?

3. Is there any other devices on the market that will cure this issue?

4. Has any one installed the Unichip device and is it worth the money?

Thanks in advance and I would like to publicly thank Jason at BURTMAN INDUSTRIES 928-252-6199 - THIS GUY GOES OUT OF HIS WAY BIG TIME TO HELP YOU. He sold me what I needed to make it happen plus was full of information regaurding lifting my TOY and ALWAYS answered my calls. Cornfed is also great help in the suspension arena. I think everyone knows Rodger at 4Crawler, great help.

Glad to help ya out. :) I know you were looking to get your pictures hosted, so I resized them and put them up for ya. Added the Burtman stamp to them so they don't end up on ebay, hehe.

1st, Sweet Ride!!:awais: 2nd, I'm in the process of installing my Cornfed & getting some 285/70/17's and have been researching recalibration as well, so I'm hoping someone has a good solution.

Later,

Problem solved guys. These guys make them, plug and play. They plug in to the factory wire harness and allow you to adjust the settings. I use them on my motorcycles, again plug/play and they are bullet proof. I have called them and they make one for my 04 Limited so I would assume they make them for all of our trucks. :)

Yellow Box Speedo Re-Calib

The 2005 is different.

I have found the solution although I have not completed the install yet. A 20 year Toyota Tech helped ID the proper point in which to "break in" with the signal modification. Their is no single speed sensor on the gearbox or tranny on the 2005 but the speedometer input is taken at each wheel and then goes through the ABS computer. When it comes out of the ABS computer is where you attach your device. After coming out of the ABS ECS computer it goes to combination meter {the instrument cluster is called the combination meter} connecteor D9. You cut the GRAY wire with the RED STRIPE that is attached to pin 4 on connector D9 {D9 is one of 4 connectors on the combination meter} I DO NOT KNOW IF THE V6 IS THE SAME AS I HAVE A V8.

The device you use is your choice. The Dakota Digital would probably work fine but I choose Superlifts Truspeed which is purchased through BURTMAN INDUSTRIES 928-252-6199. The yellow box would probably work too. I think all your are trying to achieve is a change in "pulse rates"?....

I will let you know as Jason Burtman shipped me one yesterday.

I can comment here. I toiled for months over whether or not to install a Unichip. I was thisclose to buying one on two occasions, but a couple of factors ultimately kept me from doing so.

The only thing they can really do for our 4Runners is adjust fuel air ratios and maybe adjust a small amount of timing. If you look at Unichip's website they claim that they can give the 4Runner about 8HP. Is that worth $900? I didn't think so either. Also, after tireless research on the internet and over the phone I realized that even though they make custom maps for each application, many people still needed a dyno tune to fine tune the Unichip, so go ahead and tack on another hundred or so dollars to realize the full 8HP. Not really worth it, in my opinion.

Instead of a Unichip, I came across Split Second's programmable signal calibrator (PSC1-001) which is essentially what a Unichip is. It takes a signal from a sensor(s) in the engine, conditions it to essentially trick the computer into either leaning out the air-fuel mix and/or adding/taking out timing. To get useful results from this, the signal has to be precisely conditioned, which is why dyno tuning helps gain some power. I paid $400 less than the unichip to buy, install and tune the PSC to realize as much horsepower as possible from my intake and exhaust. The result was a couple more HP (10 vs. 8), and tuned for almost half the price. Check out my thread where it is all documented:

TEXAS

NICE! Ours are gonna be TWINS. Just ordered my lift from Burtman's a few minutes ago... Where are you at in Texas and who did your install?

I got nothing to add to this thread except

Jason/Burtman Industries is EXACTLY how all automotive supply companies should be run.

Is there not a way to have a toyota tech go in the computer and adjust the RPM's a mile that the tire spins. This number is the circumfrence of the tire divided into a mile. C=3.14*33" I know 33's don't always measure 33". C=112.2" or 9.35' Now 5280 divided by 9.35=564.70588 or 565 revs per mile. On my dodge we could go into the computer and adjust that parameter so that the computer was reading the speed sensor correctly. You can also get the rev's per mile from the tire manufacturer. My $.02

I love the look of your truck. I am looking to do very similar set up I do have a question on your wheels. I am looking At the incubus recoils. Which bolt pattern do you have w/ the 17x9 I went to the website and if i am correct. you should have 6x5.5(135mm) with a bore size of 108 mm. But the incubus web site has 6x135 w/ 87mm centerbore.Bolt pattern is ok but center bore would be to small< or they have 6x139.7 bolt pattern with 107.95 centerbore this set up bolt pattern is off a little and center bore is just a wink to small. Sorry for the long post I just don't want to get boned when I order the wheels.
