2005 V6 with tranny slipping in 4th

Not sure what is going on. My tranny acts like it is slipping out of gear momentarily when in 4th and below 2K rpm. Hard to describe. Feels like when you pull a heavy trailer and the trailer hits a bump and it jolts the truck. Doesn't do it in any other gear and it gets better after TFT heats up over 170. I'm going to check the fluid level tomorrow to see if it is low or something obvious. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Around 30-45mph, when you're cruising or accelerating lightly? That's what mine is doing, I think the torque converter clutch is going out.

It will do it at those speeds and higher. Like yours it's when I'm lightly accelerating.

I saw a forum post somewhere a few weeks ago that said it's common for these transmissions to shake like that and can be fixed by overfilling the fluid by about 300ml (1/3 qt). I didn't pay too much attention since my transmission started doing it right after I did a long road trip with a trailer, and the fluid level hadn't changed in a while.

I decided to put a little more fluid in my transmission this morning and drove around for about an hour trying to get the shuddering to come back, but it didn't. Too early to say it's fixed, IMO, but I'm going to keep an eye on it for a few more days. I'll let you know if it comes back.

Please help. I’m having similar issues with my 2007 4Runner. When I brake firmly or go around turns it drops out any gear that it’s in and into neutral. Basically any centrifugal force causes it to drop out of gear… Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated!

2007 Toyota 4Runner SR5 codes:

P0456- gas cap (could be an easy fix, just buy a new gas cap) that might fix that and the below issue as well…

I'm with you on the overfill. I don't see my problem as being a shudder issue. I rarely drive it, so it has mostly been sitting for the past six months. I noticed that on my way to the trails it was slipping out of 4th there, but after crawling around on the trails for a couple hours it didn't do it on the way home. I thought it was just the temp, but I think it's a mixture of the level not being just right and sitting too long unused. I did a complete fluid exchange about 30K miles ago. I don't recall this happening before I stopped driving it regularly.
