Here are the 2006 model year 4Runner changes we received from Toyota today:

4Runner enters the 2006 model year with several changes that enhance its exterior and interior
style and value to ensure it stays ahead of the competition.

The 4Runner receives dramatic changes to both interior and exterior.

MP3 capability on the radio?? .....


That makes me happy --- as long as I can yank one out of an 06 and put it in my 05 .....


and a Mini-plug for external audio devices in center console ???

ARGH!!! --- should have waited a few months to get the 06 instead...
 
I wonder if the '06 Glass will be compatible with the '05 Glass.

Next time I get my windshield replaced I would want more thickness!
 
All the changes are nice, I would of like to have had them all.


However, no big mechanical/engine/offroad/safety changes, so I don't care. :p

I agree with you... However, 06 owners will get more bang for their buck.

You know how everyone was previously mentioning styling changes typically come around ever 3-4 years...

So this is it for the 4runner?

Will this be called the 5gen.

What constitutes naming of a new generation?

Still a 4th gen.

A 5th gen would be a total redesign, from the frame up.


I would of liked to see standard side airbags. Toyota never takes the lead in standard safety features.

I've worked for a Toyota dealership for the past 5 1/2 years. This came in on Toyota's dealer site this morning. Trust me, it's completely accurate. I wouldn't post anything unless it was completely true.

I trust ya just wanted to know so i can keep myself up to date on it. By the way, do you know when they will start selling them?
 
4Runners, along with Land Cruisers, RAV4s, and Highlanders are usually the last new model year vehicles introduced. I would expect you'll see them hitting dealer's lots early to mid October (if history repeats itself).
 
I hear ya. Makes me wanna cry too, but hey, I still love my '05, even if it is only 1.5 months old......

Would really have liked to have:
 
No lockers

I was really hoping for at least a rear TRD Locker.

I saw the SURF picture and I personally like the 03-05 front view than the 06 surf. But I would have to look at it first in person to make a judgement call.

Oh well. There might be some good incentives in the next few months

Having the power seats on the Sport and SR5 will be nice, since that's been an owner gripe for quite a while now (I had 2 4th gens and I would have loved to just have a power driver's seat!)

I can't wait to see the 18" wheels. Overall, I think the upgrades will look sharp. Toyota has a lot of really cool things coming out over the next 7-9 months. Now, if we could only get a true sports car, we'd have it all! I'm sure it's on it's way.

Any news on the '06 Tacoma or FJ cruiser?

The Tacoma will just be a carry over year. Nothing new or deleted. So, don't hesitate to buy an '05 while there's still a big selection.

Look for the FJ Cruiser around late winter/early spring of 06. That's about all I have. Toyota is as tight lipped to their dealers as they are to the rest of the public. It kind of makes things more exciting that way for everyone waiting to see what's coming out.

They did the same thing with the Highlander in 2004 because they found that most people never use it. It became an option probably the same will happen on the Runner. I just hope they don't screw up the electrical connection like on the Highlander.
