2006 4Runner changes

seeing picture of the 06 JDM 4R Exterior look really nice but I do not like the new rounder wheels well at all! I fill like I got stiff big time out of a lot of goody when I got got my 05 SE a month ago! anyone think the 06 will have a higher MSRP? I fill like going out to the shooting range!

Thanks for posting those changes! I think the only thing I would want is the thicker glass, projector headlights and the power seat. If the 18's look nice, I may swap them in.

I am happy that I got the tonneau cover and the tow hitch. Why in the world would Toyota take these off?

Is that they just upgraded our housing for the projectors, a simple bolt in with ballast. I'll be watching to see, hopefully they will fit, I'd buy them directly from the parts department, full price if they went straight in

Most owners will never use the hitch. It is optional on a lot of other SUVs. A hitch & harness is a easy dealer add on. As a option, it will keep cost down.

No cover makes ZERO sense. Everyone uses it.

Having the power seats on the Sport and SR5 will be nice, since that's been an owner gripe for quite a while now (I had 2 4th gens and I would have loved to just have a power driver's seat!)

Substituting a power seat and obsoleting the standard seat must be Toyota's way of avoiding a fix (probably cheaper for them in the long run than admitting there is a problem and doing a replacement campaign.) It's not a safety item so they can avoid the recall. I'll be very surprised if they pursue a real fix. I feel taken and I'll let the stealer know that the next time I'm in the market.

I agree. Most of the issues and complaints (although minor except for the seat moving) I had with my '04, I also have with my '05. You'd think they would listen to customers and try to fix things for the following model year.

Maybe the fix was beyond their control (suppllier contracts, etc.) and just putting in a new model seat into the 2006 avoids any negative press and future problems from customers. Based on this new informaiton I feel left hanging more then ever on this issue.

I think the power is still just an option on the SR5 V6, so I guess they haven't totally given up on it

No, the spring loaded cover that sits higher, level with the top of the back seats. What is going on with the third row seat on the 2006?

Oh sure, just when I start enjoying this forum this comes out and blows my day. What else will be stardard on the '06....Revos maybe??! I bet, since yesterday I just picked up my new 17" Revos, I bet I'll fall in love with the 06 with the 18" wheels and then what am I to do?

Thanks for the info Granth. I still love my 2005, but those 18'' rims, memory seats, and thicker glass would have been nice! Any idea if the 2006 4Runner's will get bluetooth and voice nav?

A little more information to the original poster on the 06...it does appear that the US will be getting the HiluxSurf after all! I have placed an order for my '06 already...see below:

Trailor hitch aside, I wonder if the bumper redesigns will improve app/dep angles? Probably not, as no locker option shows there's no emphasis on off-road improvement. All the off-road ideas are probably reserved for FJ.

Things I wouldn't mind having:

- smoked headlamp bezel
- 18" rims (though it only mentions the Limited, so I assume it's n/a on the Sport)
- reinforced center pillar (though I haven't really noticed it as a problem in the 03-05)
- miniplug for an iPod (OTOH, I don't own an iPod)
- MP3 capability
- power seat

However, none of these would be deal breakers for me on a good deal on an '05.

I'll wait on a final verdict for the new appearance, but the round foglamps in a squarish opening will take some time to grow on me. Projector headlamps are cool, but the current headlamps work well enough for me. I'm not a big fan of a lot of chrome, so the SR5's chrome door handles and license plate garnish may be too much for me.

I thought I'd miss not having a power seat (since my Highlander had one), but I'm the only one who drives my 4Runner, so how often does one need to adjust the seat anyway?

It's interesting that they took some things away -- the trailer hitch on V6 models, the tonneau cover on the SR5, the cassette player, rear-seat audio, etc.

All those upset about all these enhancements that are on the '06, but not the '03/'04/'05: relax and consider that most of us have had months, if not years, of enjoying our 4Runners. Over the last three years, the 4Runner hasn't had a year where it was a complete carryover. If you kept waiting for "next year's" model, you'd never buy one.

Does anyone have any idea when this information will be avaliable to the general public. I'm waiting to order a 2006 and would like the details. My dealer doesn't have them (or won't share yet) and I cannot find them on the web. Photos of the interior and the audio/nav options are of particular interest to me as I have all but decided to go with an Eclipse AVN 5495.
