2006 4Runner Limited

Thanks!! Those are great pics you got there. I like most of the styling on the 2006. The projector headlights, LED taillights, 18'' rims, fog lights, and front turn signal location are nicer. The things I don't really like are the new grille and bumpers. It looks like it would take a lot of work to retrofit the new projectors into a 2003-2005 4Runner. Do they have any Sports on the lot? I can't wait to see the tubular roof racks and bars.

Didn't see any '06 SEs. In fact, this was the only '06 that they have on the lot. I think our new member '4runner06' just bought an '06 SE. Can't wait to see the new rack, too.

Looks like Claremont Toyota, with the Albertsons in the back. I'm not far from there, I might have to go and check out what they have now.

well I guess i'll have to see if i can buy just one head light and mock it up to see what will need to be done. it does look like a lot of work and I don't know how feasible it would be.
Actually, it looks like there are no sheet metal changes so it might not be that complicated. Same with the rear, should just pop right in. Definitely need a new trim piece below the headlight; might involve a little painting.

Great Pix!! I'll have to start making the rounds to see one in person. Did you happen to notice the manufacturer of the tires?

Does anyone have any interior shots of a Limited?

Just curious how the 03-05's compare to the 06 on the inside.

I'm not a huge fan of the individual changes, but as a whole, they do give the truck a more rugged look similar to the Tacoma. I still think the 04 was the best year for styling, but the look of the 06 is growing on me the more I see it.

Back in 2000 during the 3rd Gen, the roof rack, side mirrors, and running boards were the same color as the rest of the truck. I loved that look. In comparison, the SR5 had black side mirrors (regardless of the color of the rest of the truck) and I belive black roof racks. In my opinion, that was not very attractive.

Now, at least from what I see for the 05 and 06, the Limiteds have BLACK roof racks and BLACK running boards...Yuk. My 05 Sport is white, which means that at least it has the silver roof racks, but the running boards are black. In fact, it looks almost identical to the 4runner of the month.

The Limiteds are pricy, and for that kind of money, I would think that Toyota could at least paint the roof racks and running boards the same color as the rest of the truck.

Do any of you agree with me?

Zachary

I totally agree with you on that, they should be colored matched. That was one of the first things I noticed when the 05's came out, that the mirrors, running boards, and roof racks were black.

Especially with the mirrors, it looks like you got your mirrors knocked off, so you went to the junk yard, but could only find a black Runner with mirrors.

I hope they go back to color matching that stuff.

I agree but I doubt Toyota will do that anytime soon. The GX470 has matching roofracks and running boards. The only thing about painted running boards is they would get scratched very easily if you go offroading. I think black is more durable but cheap looking.

I just went by Claremont Toyota and saw 2 x '06 4Runners. One was a silver Limited V6 w/leather, the other was a white Sport V6. Funny thing was, window sticker price was pretty much exactly the same as the '05's that were surround it, and I didn't see any additional markups on the sticker.

Just staring at the fronts of the '06 4Runners and the '05 4Runners, I kind of like the '05 look a little better. The silver limited had a color-matched grill and the white sport had a gaudy chrome grill. The '06 front end kind of reminds me of the new Tacoma front ends.

When will the V8 '06 4Runners be available?

Painted Runnin Boards and Roof Rack

My '04 Limited has silver matching running boards and roof rack. While I also like the look better than black, I have already scraped paint off the running boards just doing mild off-roading. It's very hard to obtain the same paint adhesion and properties over flexible plastic surfaces as it is over rigid metal substrates.

Toyota is saving money and headaches by leaving the black plastic unpainted.

I want to swap my headlights and taillights from 05 to 06. We do not have any 06 4Runners here yet and parts department doesn't know when they will have parts... :(

I went to check out the 2006 this weekend and for the most part liked the new look except for the bumpers. Both the front and rear bumpers seemed bloated to me. In trying to streamline the front bumper with the rest of the front end it gives the appearance of a huge bumper. By removing the bumper reflectors in the rear the bumpers just seemed bigger than they should be.

Just an opinion and like some other car changes in the past, time will tell if I have the same thoughts 6 or 12 months from now.

is the stinky exhaust gone?

My 2003 4runner seems like getting worse or the gas in my area has more sulfur, but does it stink! Anyone know if this issue is finally fixed?

Have you done the sulfur TSB? Apparently there is a sulfur TSB for the 2003-2004 V6/V8 4Runner as well as another one coming out for the 2005 V6 recently. I haven't heard of one for the 2005 V8 just yet.

now the TSB doesn't totally eleminate the smell but it does help significantly.
