Anyone had one of these due to high moisture or some kind of contamination in the transmission solenoid "E" Control circuit or plug in?
My issue came about after the car sat for several days in a hot humid garage. The car demonstrated hard "F" shifts. Then all of the sudden the VSC lights came on and the tranny slipped for a brief moment.
After disconnecting the battery, the CEL and VSC Trac off lights went away. After driving 15 miles, they came back on.... but the 4Runner did not exhibit any transmission symptoms.
I parked the car over night and this morning upon starting, the dash lights were all off. I brought it to the local shop with a computer and the P0986 Code is what he pulled off for both the transmission and engine.
Any suggestions? Should I jam some dielectric grease in the multi wire electrical connection/fitting where it connects to the transmission?
