2006 4runner v6 transmission oil

Hi all. First post so go easy on me.
So I drained my transmission oil and now I want to fill it but I can't find where to fill it from the top. I called the dealer and they told me that the only way to fill it is from the drain hole and that I need to bring in my 4runner for them to fill for $190.
Anyone know how I can fill it myself? Thanks!

The sealed transmissions (without a dipstick) have a fill plug and an overflow plug. They're both on the trans itself, under the truck. Fill is on the side, and overflow is on the bottom. Basically, you pour ATF (probably ATF WS - check your specs) into the fill hole until it comes back out the overflow hole. But there's a catch - to get the correct amount of fluid, you must warm it up a bit. So, you need to fire it up and jumper a couple of pins on the OBD II connector. When the fluid reaches the right temperature, the truck will flash a light on the dash.
If you've got the right amount of fluid, just a little bit trickles out of the overflow plug at the given temperature.

It's a big pain in the butt. Not surprised that the dealer wants $190... they want $140 for a "normal" change with a dipstick.

I'm curious why you wanted to change the fluid already, it has a pretty long maintenance schedule.

umm. Well the other day I decided to start doing my own oil changes. When I went under to drain, I didn't know that the engine oil drain was behind the plate. That's where everything went downhill.

betcha you'll never make that mistake again. :

Don't be discouraged though, it is still better to do things yourself even if you have a couple of learning experiences along the way.
