2006 Rav4 Revealed

Toyota USA makes a big deal of the 2006 Rav4. More details will be available on Sept. 12, 2005.

It will be shown for the first time at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show November 2, 2005 in Las Vegas.

They don't even mention the 2006 4Runner. I wonder what does this mean.

Thanks for posting that! My dad's been looking to getting one for my mom, especially since they're offering a V6 in them! Rumor has it that it's getting a 270hp version of the 3.5L V6 in the Avalon, which is just a modified version of the 4.0L V6 in the 4Runner.
 
I saw that today on Toyota's website and they look very nice. They actually look very sport with those bigger wheels. I wish Toyota would have released more details on the car rather than tease us with a picture of the front! From the picture, it kind of looks like a mini Highlander in the front and a Nissan Murano in the rear. A 270hp V6 in a RAV4 will mean good acceleration and lots of speed! :rocker:
 
The 270hp V6 is apparently confirmed, and 7 passenger seating will be available (possibly standard, I only talked with my Toyota guy briefly about this).

Seems it is going to be slanted more toward a slightly larger on-road type SUV, and the FJ Cruiser will fill the gap for a more off-roadish SUV; while still being smaller and less expensive than a 4R.

What will happen to the Highlander?? That would be one big RAV4! Or the 3rd row must be for children of midgets!:p

we're talking about the RAV4 here.. the one that started the cute-ute category, and it's now becoming Explorer-size? :eek:

Where did you guys read about 3 seat rows/7passengers/270hp V6???????

This is all Toyota.com has to declare:

that sounds like they are trying to duplicate their SUV line-up for those who want the name, not the capability... 3rd row in Rav4, Highlander, 4Runner, Sequoia, and Land Cruiser??? Something doesn't look right with this. Even the picture doesn't look like it will support a 3rd row, unless it is a rumble seat... Hey - it was popular in the '40's...

I imagine the Highlander will still be a wider and more well-appointed vehicle.....also, it is due for a restyle so who knows what that will bring. That link above is a very interesting looking vehicle.....

Looks like the wheelbase has grown quite a bit, so this thing might be bigger than initially meets the eye.....

That's too bad. I like the look of the prototype A LOT more. It kind of reminds me of a Taureg. Either way, I will probably never look to buy either in my lifetime, so my opinion on this really does not matter.
 
I think the upper picture is the 05/Current Model and the lower picture is the new one....

I too like the prototype.
 
3.5 V6 with 270hp, and we have only 4.0 V6 with 245 :confused:
What is going on???? I want more hp on my 4Runner.
On second thought, OK. We will have new RAV4 as 2006 model. Next year Toyota is introducing new Land Cruiser as 2007 model with 5.5 and somewhere 320-340hp. Looks like Highlander will be for 2008 model and 4Runner as 2009 model. This will make me hope that if RAV4 and Land Cruiser are becoming larger, then next Highlander and 4Runner should too. Look guys, new RAV4 is coming to close to Highlander and this means that Toyota should raise Highlander, but it's already too close to 4Runner, so 4Runner should become larger with normal and comfortable 3rd row and take a place close to existing Land Cruiser also because Land Cruiser is moving ahead in size. This sound logic.
 
Since the RAV4 got larger, there is really no need for a Highlander. In my opinion, Toyota should not have added third row seats. This is definitely going to push out the Highlander if Toyota doesn't have major changes planned. What is the point of adding 268hp to a RAV4 if the Highlander doesn't have that much hp? That RAV is going to fly off of the line! The only thing I can't believe that Toyota didn't change is that ugly looking spare tire mounted on the rear. They updated everything but that. I would even take a temporary spare if it was able to be stored under the car! I am actually very disappointed with the way the RAV4 looks in the back. It looks great from the front and inside!

DO you think Toyota will just stop producing gasoline Highlanders and keep the hybrid version, then we are looking at RAV4 -> FJ Cruiser -> 4Runner -> Sequoia -> Land Cruiser? And 4Runner will be larger with standard 3rd row seat while FJ Cruiser being the ultimate offroad choice?

That definitely seems plausable. If Toyota only offers the Hybrid Highlander, that would be a unique quality to the Highlander. But on the other hand, the gas mileage isn't all that amazing to spend the extra money for a hybrid so they may lose sales all together. You still need a solid midsize, car based gas engine SUV because that is what people want. The RAV4 will still be considered a compact SUV no matter how large it is!

It looks like the FJ Cruiser is going to be the ultimate off-road vehicle. The 4Runner is turning into more of a luxury SUV that will get you where you have to go. The only thing is it may cross paths with the GX470 so Toyota/Lexus has to be careful what they do. It may seem radical, but maybe they will make the GX470 as a hybrid only??? :confused:
