2006 Rear Door Creaking??

I have an 06 Limited with 500 miles on it and recently started hearing the same thing. I am also having a problem with the JBL radio and heavy static. I contacted the dealer and they said to bring it in for service. I hope this isnt a sign of things to come with this vehicle.

Haven't heard any creaking sounds from the rear door motor on my 2004. It's a very kewl feature I must say. And I hate when people slam the hatch :bash:

My 06 does the same thing, but it's most annoying when I make a right turn on unlevel ground (like turning into a steep driveway). I get a creaking sound coming from the right rear of the cargo area. I assume it's coming from where the hatch meets the body - when it flexes, the hatch and body move a little. I'm going to bring it up when I take it in to the dealership for the first oil change. Hopefully they can figure it out, cause it's really annoying!
Oh yeah, when I open the hatch, it sounds like the latching mechanism is really tight and pops undone. Perhaps it needs some adjustment or wearing in cause it's new? Anyone else get the feeling that it's not as smooth as it could be?

Actually someone here pointed out it was the rear upper seat latches and a piece of black electrical tape will cure the creak, at least it did on mine!T4Runner06 said:

Just an update regarding my squeaking when I make an uneven turn... I had already done the electrical tape on the seat latch and that wasn't it, but last night I was sitting in the rear trying to hunt down the source of the noise and found it. Turns out it wasn't the rear hatch at all. The two plastic panels behind the rear passenger seat were not popped in all the way and that was causing rubbing and noise. I popped them in and they're flush now... no more noises! As for the rear hatch, I think I'll lube the latch mechanism and the rubber aligners on the sides. That should quiet things down. Thanks for everyone's help!

Yup, had the same creaking for a couple days now - glad this forum exists to share everyone's experiences.
I'm going with the tape route - the actual Toyota TSB asks the technician to literally widen two holes from the striker. Don't know about you, but tape seems a bit easier to me...
You can read this particular TSB (as well as all others) from this AllData Website . Just do a browser search on "NV003R-04" and it'll take you to that specific issue.
