2006 T4R v8 Sport....is this a good deal?

Thanks everybody for your 2c. I will try some private broker/certified car stuff but I still think I can get a sweet deal from the private seller. That smoke smell will turn off anyone who doesn't smoke. I know she wants to sell it. I would love the vehicle at the right price (thinking 22k) but am unsure if I will ever be able to get the smoke smell out. I did some research online and some folks have been successful and some haven't...would hate to be in the latter column. Anyone know of a local detailer in bay area, ca who could come close to cleaning it all out? Anyone have success in getting rid of smoke smell?

hmmm...just had a conversation with a nice private broker...he said there weren't too many 4runners in the 2006-2007 year models with low miles. said people don't sell/trade those in that early. said if i found one from a private party i like i should buy it if price is right. did say it was difficult to get smoke smell out. nice enough to give me a detailers name and suggested i pay $125 to get it detailed with agreement with seller the purchase is subject to smell getting removed.
seems like on autotraders.com there are a lot of low mile 4runners for sale.

update: am not purchasing the 2006 T4R v8 Sport because 1) could not get smoke smell out even after a $145 detail job and 2) at 70mph+ upon accelerating i thought there was some low riders next to me playing loud music with a loud base deep sound. it resonated with me and i looked around me as i couldn't believe i could hear someone else's stereo on the freeway . well turns out this vehicle has that harmonic droning sound that has been reported on this board. awful, awful sound. i could not live with it.
i am now scared off of 4runners but not completely. my question is does this effect v6's as well? i'm considering an 06 or 07 SR5 or limited v6 but want to ensure that the v6 does not have this reported problem. thanks! oh and sorry to all those folks who have this problem. i cannot believe toyota did not issue a fix.

Or if the sunroof is too far open. I have to run mine about 2-3 inches towards the closed position to eliminate the droning. The manual even mentions it.josh220 said:

A V6 or V8 will drone the same. It's really a non issue once you figure out to close the sunroof a hair or crack another window (in the case of the back windows being down). If you go out in your '98 I am sure there's some combo of speed and windows that'll set up a drone.
As you move forward remember not all '06/'07 4Runners have the curtain airbags. It was an option. Good luck!

I had that droning sound going when I had BOTH sides windows down (2:1, 1:2: 2:2) on my '05 Frontier and it only happened when the windows are down to a certain level (may not necessarily mean all the way down), but didn't have it when I only had ONE side windows down (1 or 2). It's the aerodynamics that's affecting how and where the air current is entering the vehicle that causes the droning sound.
As far the sound-proof capability with all windows up and sunroof closed, the 4Runner certainly cannot compare to luxury cars like Merc or BMW (they emphasize a lot on how to pad the vehicle body and door panels, etc.), but certainly are a lot better than a lot of other vehicles.
And autotrader.com is certainly a great resource to start research and narrowing down - it has both dealer and private seller listings with multiple pictures.
