2006 Tundra Bilstein RB/RY coils and shocks will work?

Hi guys, I have searched high and low but haven't found any definitive answers to my question. Filed for a dispute on a pair of Toytec 2" spacers on eBay (seller wasn't shipping although I paid for it almost a month ago), so I guess I'd just jump the boat into a proper set of suspension.

I was not able to find any YY/YB, but I did find a pair of Red Blue/Red Yellow set off a 2006 Tundra 4X4 Double Cab. Practically brand new condition.

What I wanted to ask was, how is this different from the YY/YB and should I buy them? The price is good. The shocks that come with it have a PN of Bilstein 48510-AF140. I am hoping that someone here have come across these particular setup or have installed them and can give their opinions. Thanks!

They will fit. However, they will not give you the same amount of lift as the other coils. Also, those springs are not progressive rate like the others, meaning they are a more stiff coil, and the ride won't be as good. There are a couple guys who installed those, and IIRC, they got a little over an inch of lift.

Please do! I'm quite anxious to know. It's $200 for the pair - a good deal, especially when it doesn't involve taking off your old parts to put in someone else's old parts.. hahah

I see. Thanks for the clarification, definitely the answer I was looking for! Still, I'd like to find those who installed them in their T4Rs and see their build threads..

I'd pass on these. For what you get, $200 is not a good deal. They are not the correct coils that are used for the TRD lift. The shocks are old, though they might not have that many miles, the bushings and structure deteriorate over the years.
FWIW, I bought my yy/yb coils the same way that these are, and I paid $90 shipped. Even though they are all put together, you still need to change the top hat out, which requires you to take the coilover apart.

I think the progressive coils ride more stiff than linear (stock 4runner/ Tacoma/ Tundra coils), as I've used both types. Being stiffer is probably why they give more lift.

I believe [MENTION=56756]1985taylor1925[/MENTION] had some non-TRD Tundra springs (off an access cab I think), and he loved the way they rode, but didn't give the amount of lift that the yy/yb springs give. Like 1-1.5" instead of 2". Maybe he can chime in.

OP, if you're looking for a 2" lift go with the yy/yb. The ones you found from a DC Tundra will probably ride nice, but as Millerad1651 stated, $200 is not a deal on them. $50 would be a deal on them IMO.

This is exactly what I have on my truck, and it gave me around 2" of lift. You can look at pictures in my thread. I dont know what the difference is between these and the YY/YB. Perhaps theyre not progressive. But they most definately will give you a lift. I will say though, the ride is stiff. Ive had these on my truck for a while now and have never really gotten used to the stiffness, though I cant compare them to the YY/YB as Ive never driven a truck with them. So they may be just as stiff. Either way, they will give you a decent lift.

Edit: I also did research on these after getting mine and couldnt find any useful info on them. As mentioned I think the difference must be that theyre not progressive. I would probably say go with the progressive coils if you can find them. But if youre not afraid of a stiff ride these could work great for you

You are right about the stiffness part. However they did give me a full 2" lift from stock. Before installing these coils I had PP coils and the height is exactly the same with these. I would be curious to see others who got only 1" from these. You can see in my pictures that I definately sit higher than 99 OEM coils. But about the progressive part, I think you are correct and thats probably the reason Im thinking "what are you guys taliking about!" when everyone raves about the great ride of the Tundra coils. Must be because mine arent progressive

Youre close. What happened was . . . I had originally gotten a set of Tundra coils from 2x4 Tundra, and the shocks were just stock Tokicos. I figured I would just give it a shot and see what they did. And yes they rode fantastic! If I could find a 2" lift that rode like that, I would take it in a heartbeat But the height was the same as stock coils. So then I got the same coils op has pictured above, and they gave me a full 2" lift. Im still running them, and they are pretty stiff. Id love to ride in a 3rd gen with the YY/YB to compare

Ah, I had one part correct! I knew they were a stiffer coil, but I didn't think you had that amount of height...figured they would though, as they're made for a heavier truck and they don't give as much as the yy/yb coils.
I like the ride of mine, but I need new shocks...the ones I installed are getting up there in miles.

OP, wait for the yy/yb coils, you'll be glad you did.

Thanks for the input! Appreciate it, I guess there are a few people out there who are looking for 'real' answers as well. Well, if you put it that way, I guess I would steer clear from this and wait a little bit longer for the YY/YB. :/

I did read the link, but my greed and persistence came through and I came here anyway to seek consolation that the stiff coils were of any use.

I tried look at Car-Part with the the "Bilstein shock opt." and under "Coil - Air Spring" or something. Does it come with just the coils or the coil + shock assembly? I'm confused. Also, I have no idea how to tell if it's YY/YB from Car-Part.

Found mine at a salvage yard 600 miles away, using car-part.com. You need coils from a TRD extra/access cab 4x4 as that is what the YY/YB coils were put on. If your not sure if they are right call the salvage yard and ask for a picture. You can also ask them if the coils and stuts come together. My guess is 95% of the time you will get both from a salvage yard. They don't want to hassle with removing the struts.
