2006 V8 skid plate

I just bought a 2006 v8 and the skid plate only had one bolt left. I took it to the local Toyota dealer and they said it had been stripped and the other bolts must have come out over time and they had to redrill 6 holes. They also said that for v8's it is best to remove the skid plate, even though there is the small plastic cap on the skid plate to help with this.

Does this sound right?

To keep the skid off? Definitely NOT right, That's how a twig, or something else rediculous that would normally not even scave an engine, ends up killing your truck

Sorry, not to keep the skid plate off permanently, just to take it off for oil changes and then put back on. I didn't think it needed to be taken off since there is a plastic cap that it looks like was made for that sole reason, but the service guy said it works much better to take it off.

Oh, in that case, yes, definitely right. That cap doesn't really... work, per say, lol.

He probably meant to get to the oil filter since draining the oil is so easy with or without the skid. The filter can be removed/replaced from above, but removing the skid is just an overall better way to do it.
