Hello folks, I have a new-to-me 2006 V8 Sport with 20,000 miles. I want to do her right and give her the opportunity for a long healthy lifetime. Looking to quite possibly make the switch to synthetic oil, but would like to discuss it with those of you in the know. I've browsed through the stickies and done some searching on the subject already. Thanks in advance for your welcome advice and please suggest threads or other information that might help my decision.

As for the oil, there are people on both sides of the debate between dino oil and synthetic. Personally, I'd say either is fine as long as you change it regularly.

I like the -20004 filter discussed in the link above. IMHO Toyota filters are worth it. If you buy a case online or through the local dealer you can usually get a discount. The -20004 have limited avail as discussed in the link.
Oil: I can go either way. Regular oil changes is the most important part of the oil equation IMHO. If you have some 'special situation' the arguement could be made for synthetic but for most of us it's just preference.

As far as going to synthetic, it should be OK to change over at 20,000. I bought a 2004 last year with 41,000 miles. I changed over and I used a Purolator Pure 1 oil filter for the first two oil changes. I felt the oil was getting dirty fast. That filter is supposed to clean better than most filters. I now use the Toyota oil filters.
I first used synthetic on my 2001 4Runner and I have had good luck with that car and my 2004 4Runner. I use Mobil 1. I used to use Castrol GTX and all of my older cars have lasted a long time. I tend to go a little further between oil changes with sythetic. I usually find it best to stick with one type of oil, I even try to use the same brand and try and stick with a schedule of when you change your oil. To me, changing oil often and on a schedule is the most important thing. The main reason I use Mobil 1, instead of other synthetic oils, is that it is competitively priced, it is available at most stores and it is a class IV sythetic.

Yep, I am planning on getting a case of the Toyota filters. As far as oil, I'm a strict schedule changer, and agree that is the most important aspect. I guess it would make sense to continue with traditional while I continue my research on which type to use long-term. My goal is to settle on a routine and stick with it.
