I have the same color as you, what did you do with the back toyota emblem to offset the chrome (assuming you left that one chrome as well)?

Also, noticed you pulled your front mud-flap. I want to pull both, just worried about kicking up rocks on the interstate. Have you had any issues with this?

it looks sick! i want to black out the grill but mine is white, could look strange. But bravo, sir. Good looking product for wicked cheap!

I have a White T4R with the Satoshi mod and blacked out center portion of the bumber. I'll post a couple pics of it tonight if I get a chance.

Looks GREAT! Good work leaving the Toyota emblem alone, ESPECIALLY on a black 4Runner if you paint it black then the whole front is just one solid black mass but you have some contrast with the chrome headlight bezels, chrome emblem, matte black grille, and polished paint, it looks great!!

I thought about leaving off the V8 but in the end I decided that people need to know how many cylinders I have, you know?

The wheels look sick, what type of plasti-dip did you use? and did you prep the wheels a certain way before you sprayed them?

I used the Plasti-Dip Int'l Black spray. Just washed the wheels and that's it.

Update on Durability

Alright so I took a 600 mile trip to the beach this past week, which included some sand driving as well as some of Irene's wrath.

I arrive back home, everything looks fine. I wash the car. Everything looks fine. I spray some tire gloss on the tires (with a little accidental overspray on the wheels)... and the plasti-dip bubbles.

I'm not sure what kind of reaction went on, but it looked like air bubbles formed wherever the tire gloss hit the wheel. When I went to wipe it off (very gently), the plasti dip started peeling off.

So I ended up peeling it off all 4 wheels, which took about 20 minutes all together, and now it's back to the factory silver.

All in all, it was an easy, fun, cheap project that I would do again just to change the look for awhile.

The plasti-dip on the front bumper in the lower center held up perfectly. It's the only plasti-dipped section I left.

Eagle One Wet Tire Shine Spray; simple solution to this problem... use an applicator pad. Lesson learned.

Plasti-dip

New here, Ive been lurking for a while. Thought I would contribute to this tread. Very simple mod. I decided to take off the grill and removed the latch from the hood, not the grill itself, Ive heard people had issues with the latch breaking so I didn’t want to risk it. See for yourself.

Britton406 : Your picture was the one that gave me the idea to plasti-dip the front center section black. I'm not quite convinced as to how the Satoshi grill mod would look on mine (EDIT: forgot that you have the real deal Jaos Aura ), but I love the look on yours. The contrast can't be beat!

Aww thanks! I agree and just realized it the other day. I LOVE the silver trail edition which explains why I like mine so much, haha. Or maybe vice versa

Now my wheels are turning though... I have an 07 Silver SE that is all stock... and I want mine to look like a 5th gen trail now too!

This looks quite good -- I've got a titanium silver '06, and I've had the front grill sprayed satin black for a while after the original chrome got a nasty chip in it. I've had to re-spray it about twice due to chipping. This last time, though, I went pretty thick with it and it hasn't chipped yet.

If it chips again, I'll probably look into Plasti-Dip. Truthfully, I like the look of the black grill/chrome emblems better than the stock grill. I also considered painting the lower section below the grill, as well, and tried to visualize what it would look like -- I'm glad somebody else did it. I really like it, and may go for it.

I also like the look of your wheels, too, but I'm up in the air about doing it to my own wheels. Did you just tape around the tires and go for it?
