2007 Engine Braking (Shift Logic)

Can someone explain the sequence of events that the engine braking system sets in on my 07 Limited?

I am referring to when you are on the highway, going down a significant decline, touch the brakes and the tranny shifts into a lower gear to assist the brakes in maintaining a set speed.

I had this happen this past week and even repeated it in the same spot in the road. Just curious how it works.

Thanks ahead.

Your vsc system has a deceleration sensor, aka level, that senses the angle of the vehicle. It can tell that your going downhill. When you step on the brake the vsc system tells the trans to downshift to help slow the truck down.

That fits the scenario I met this week. Not sure it is necessary in normal driving, but I am sure it will be useful when towing my big ol boat.

Thanks
