I would like some help and i know this is the place to turn. I have a 2004 4runner and would like to know if a 2007 headunit is going to be plug and play. i really want XM radio but i want it to be factory. i know the newer 4th gen are xm ready and want to know if i can make my 2004 xm ready. and will the buttons on the wheel still function the same? ... thanks in advance .

Do you already have the 07 headunit? If not, I would suggest the Scion units for XM capability. I recently installed one from a 2008 Scion Tc, model #1808. The install is very easy. It took me 45 minutes w/o any instructions. There is no splicing of wires involved. All the steering wheel controls work as well. I don't use XM, so I don't know anything about that part of the install.

No i haven't got the 2007 headunit yet, but i will look into the sicion unit. I haven't installed a headunit before, thats why i was hoping it was plug and play. The sicion is a much better looking unit. I think i might head in that direction instead. Thanks for the help

This unit is electronically plug and play BUT you will need to change out the silver console piece in the center of the dash AND the computer readout display must also be changed. If you need these parts member A/V1 may still have them for sale.

To clarify, you only need to replace those parts if going from a JBL system to the Scion, I believe. If you don't have the JBL system, those parts are not required in the installation of a Scion unit. Mine fit perfectly without any alterations to the trim or console, but I don't have the JBL system, just the run-of-the-mill POS system.

My post was in reference to the 2007 H/U in the original post. To clarify, the standard and JBL front panels are identical in size and apearance except for the yellow JBL emblem. All H/U's 2006 and later use the different center console pieces.
