Hey all. I've been reading a lot on the tire threads and I thought I'd ask for some opinions. I've got a 2007 Sport Edition with stock Dunlop Grandtrek tires on stock 17" wheels. The car has ~ 43k miles on it and after having the hardest time ever climbing a small hill with 4 inches of powder on it, with maybe 3/8" of tread left, I've come to conclusion that it's time to swap these crap shoes for some new ones.
I don't have the tire specs in front of me but if someone has this same model 4Runner or knows them offhand please post them. I know how to get them and I'll post them tomorrow when I get a chance to double check compatibility. Also my knowledge on the number standards is extremely limited (non-existent basically) but I'm reading other threads to get a crash course.
If it helps I have never towed anything nor do I have any mods (winches, etc.) done to the car so the E rating (if I remember correctly) won't be needed since my information says that makes the car "handle like a dumptruck". I live in New England so I'm after something that has good grip like a Toyo A/T Open Country (had these on my Grand Cherokee before I got the 4R) but a tire that can handle a high amount of pressure so I can get some decent gas mileage. After putting a K&N filter in my V8 I actually get about 22.5 mpg on average, I'd like to keep that if possible.
Toyo MT's and Bridgestone's Revo or Revo 2's are the names that seem to be tossed around a lot. Anyone able to help me narrow it down?
Kevin
