2008 4Runner

Hi all. I am new to this forum and considering buying a 4Runner. Does anyone know what changes will be made to next year's (2008) 4Runner, when it will be coming out, will it be an overhaul or just updates, etc.? Trying to decide to buy now or hold off. I know Toyota is overhauling the Highlander, and maybe the Sequoia and Land Cruiser, but can't find anything out there about the 4Runner. Your responses are much appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome!

The redesign for the 4Runner isn't expected until 2009. Haven't heard any rumors for 2008 changes, but I'm sure they'll be small changes at best.

There were only 3 tiny changes from 2006 to 2007 - the rearview mirror was re-designed to have one button rather than two, the cruise control was changed slightly to improve its memory when you slow down below its normal minimum, and some DTC codes were added to the compuer.

My dealer advised me that as far as they know it will be a carry over with only a couple of color choice differences.

It's unofficial still since it is months away, but from what I have read it is believable.

edit for spelling! mee speel gud.

Any idea what the 2010 model is going to look like, or just any info in general?
There are some unsubstantiated rumors (AFAIK) that it will be somewhat less capable in off road performance. Not sure where those ideas are coming from, but you never know.

I think it's simply too early to know. Probably won't have any really good idea for at least a year yet. Possibly 2.

Lets just hope that when Toyota does redesign the 4Runner they will not degrade the looks the way they did with the new Tundra. That is one ugly truck trying to look like the domestic trucks. Sorry if this offends anyone who has bought a new Tundra, but that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Hopefully they will maintain the same basic design cues such as the slanted c-pillar, front grill shape, fairly vertical rear, and rugged truck appearance. Those design elements were maintained through out the different generations of 4Runners.

Since the upcoming Highlander looks like a bigger Rav4, they should maintain the 4Runner as their rugged SUV. BTW, will the next sequoia look like the new Tundra?

Everyone is allowed their own opinion - even if it is wrong. :p

If they wimp this new gen 4R out I will be pissed !!

If they round it off like others have and make it bubble looking like the Lexus RX 300 (i think). if they make it any less capable or lower to the ground I will be done with the 4R. It will be time to move on unfortunately..............

I finally find a brand and good off road truck style , full box frame SUV that I like ........don't Frick it up Toyota !!!!!!!!!!!!

Changes for 2008:
- Side airbags become standard equipment (adds about $350 to base MSRP)
- Very slight tweak to the front bumper grille (not the hood grille) to make the horizontal plastic strips a little bigger
- Addition of an off switch for the VSC (there have been a number of posts asking for this one!!)
- Slight change in the error-handling routine for the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), including a few more diagostic trouble codes (DTC's)
- Slight change in the behavior of the seat belt warning buzzer, probably to make it more obnoxious under certain conditions (the buzzer volume is based on speed; at lower speeds, it gets louder!)

The 2008 4Runners probably have the annoying feature where it keeps beeping until you put your seatbelt on. Many Toyota/Lexus vehicles have that feature already and it is annoying.
