tried pulling an empty boat trailer out of the water and the tranny clicked loudly in drive until i let off the gas and then it seemed fine, i guess until next time. any ideas.

Tranny clicked or the VSC clicked in?
2wd or 4wd? In 2wd? At ramp? Rear wheels in water? Get my drift? If you were in 2wd, rear in water, and tried to go too fast, the VSC might have sensed slipping.
I've been on more than a few boat ramps that get nice and slick....
If, however, it was your tranny clicking... umm, stop driving immediately. The only thing in the tranny that can click is your gears not meshing/meeting and that is very serious.

4wd sr5 that i had in 2wd, no wheel slippage, it's only done it once

Do you feel a Loos of power when it does is?

no power at all, tranny just clicked away with no movement until i let of the gas for a bit and the reapplied the gas and then it took off.
