2008 Door Holder Problem

OK, so I don't know the official name of this part, but my door will no longer stay open. There seems to be 2 positions it holds the door open when the truck is parked uphill. It will not stay open on the second position (Most open). I did hear a creaking sound when the wind pulled it open a few times, now it wont hold.

Anyone have experience replacing this? Is door disassembly required? Difficult?

That’s the door check , the metal hook part is probably worn out or bent.
You can try hammering back into shape or get a new one from the dealer.

Interior door panel has to be removed , remove the bolts securing the door check - 2 on the door and 1 on the frame - fish it through the opening in the door.

The drivers side door check assembly is part number 68620-35020. Pretty easy to replace.

Thanks very much for the p/n, found the genuine Toyota part in Amazon right away. Had it in 2 days, 10 minutes watching You Tube video to remove the door, then about 20 minutes to replace the thing. It’s only 15 degrees out, so I didnt replace the blue loctite I saw on the bolt that goes into the frame, some other time.

Had to fish it through the speaker hole.

That’s another thing I like about this vehicle, great forum support and pretty simple to work on.

I am sure someone will post an aftermarket link, I tend to use factory parts for a few extra bucks sometimes. They can never blame some failure on a non-Toyota part.
