I turned in my 2006 4runner a few years ago and picked up an 08 sierra. Just thought I'd post my thoughts for anyone looking to go that route.
After 3 years and 34,000 miles I find myself overall pretty happy with the truck, however there's definitely room for improvement. I'll keep this short on account of my ADD, and possibly yours.
The good:
Great seating geometry(at least for me, I never liked the 4runner seating position)
Nice riding and quiet powertrain.
Reasonable gas milage... about 18/19 highway.
If you have a family spring for the crew cab... glad I did.
The bad:
Truck came with a cold weather clunk that only became audible while not at the dealership... turned out to be loose lugs on the crossmember(Fixed on the third winter)
Rattletrap... enough said.
Interior is awful... doesn't wear well, doesn't clean well, doesn't look well. Seat covers are almost a must. On the upside I don't care how bad my kids and dog trash it.
Could use more interior storage
tailgate replaced because of rust... dealer was great about that.
3 weeks after warranty was up the 4wheel drive selector knob failed... No love from the dealer that time. Cost of 190.00... could have been worse(different dealer from the tailgate)
Way too much rust on the frame and the trailer hitch... washed after most storms.
