2008 GX470 Towing Options

I have a 2008 GX470 and am trying to determine if I can use a weight distribution hitch. I have been told that it may cause damage to the auto leveling/height control mechanism but have also been told that it is fine if the height control is turned off. Does anyone have experience with this or know for sure which is the correct answer?

How would a weight distributing hitch negatively affect the AHC? That's like saying a heavier or lighter trailer would also cause damage, I don't follow the logic.

I have never used a weight distribution hitch nor completely understands the mechanics of the AHC. I was told that they may work against each other thus causing the AHC to continuously work to try adjust the height while the WDH is doing the opposite. If they both only work to raise the vehicle's rear-end, then I think that I see your point that neither should be pulling the other down and vice versa. Is that your point?
