Toyota has "standard builds" that ship to each region of the country. While in theory it's possible to get just about any combination of options on any model, if you want something that's not a standard build for your area, you would have to place a special order and wait several months.
Although it sounds like BS when the dealer says "you can't get that", he's being realistic and telling you that it will be difficult to get in your area. Most of the standard builds that include navigation do in fact start with V8 Limiteds, although that does vary by region of the country.
The factory nav is really nice and includes the backup camera. If you don't buy it with factory nav, the aftermarket nav systems are very good. It's hard to retrofit the OEM nav after the fact, and it's probably not worth the cost or the effort in comparison to the aftermarket solutions.

Okay, I guess. I just wondered why someone who could afford to buy a 2008 Limited with Nav wouldn't get the V8, with it's upgraded hitch, xmission and oil coolers, heavier duty radiator and alternators, and of course more HP and more torque at lower end.
Seems to me it's kinda like having sex and then pulling out permaturely, you're not having all the fun that you could.

I don't understand your reasoning. Choosing the V6 isn't skimping. The V6 is a damn good engine that has MORE than enough power for most 4Runner owners. And in an effort to avoid turning this thread into a V6 vs V8 debate, there are plenty of good reasons that people choose the V6 over the V8, besides the extra fuel economy. Money often has nothing to do with the decision. I fall into that category...

Everything you mentioned relates to towing. If I had to tow over 5000 lbs on a regular basis, I'd probably agree with you. Then again, probably not, because I'd probably buy a bigger vehicle if I towed heavy loads very often.
So what do you tow?

I get MUCH better mileage than my friend with a v6 taco..... not saying that you wont get better mileage than me, but just because shes got 2 extra cylinders doesnt meant she isnt efficient! Im suprised time and time again...

and oh yeah, for the topic at hand, YOU CAN GET WHATEVER YOU WANT for a T4R from the dealer, hence my sport w/ leather & dvd players.... I say find a dealer that makes it easy for you, you dont EVER want to deal with incompetent terds when it comes to your $ 4Rrunner.
I dont tow anything myself, but I got the V8 to get the V8. Same basic reason one gets the limited, cause its a limited. I think its mostly a cost issue, if you can easily afford the v8 (and its supposed heavier gas consumption) than why not get it... not *****ing but just $0.02'ing

You can get a Limited V6 with navigation. It's a matter of finding a dealer that's willing to do it, which most refer to as a "special order". In reality, there is no "special order", the dealer just has to preference the options you want and Toyota has to accept that preference for your vehicle to be built. The difficulty lies in most regional distributors requests for their vehicle builds in a certain configuration. Each different combination results in "packages", when in fact you can have any option you want provided it's offered for that trim sans any you don't want.
Like Even Steven, I chose the V6 for reasons other than price as well and not turn this thread into another V6 vs. V8 debate. I almost bought the V8 Limited to get navigation because the "special order" took so long.

I probably used the wrong word when I said "skimp". All you say is true, and yes Toyota V6 a damn good engine.
It just seems to me that if you've the money for a 2008 Limited with Navigation, you wouldn't care about a couple mpg gas milage, and would just go "all out", and get the V8, even if you don't tow anything. I guess though, if you drive the 4Runner over 5000 miles a month, like OP stated, that would start to add up after awhile!!
