2008 Sequoia

Don't know if this has been posted, but came across it looking up specs for the next generation Corolla and Matrix.

Toyota.com has pictures and partials specs of the next generation Sequoia.

The styling looks pretty good, IMO. There's a little bit of the Highlander on the rear and Tundra in the front, the sides doesn't have the slab look on the RAV4 and Highlander.

One thing I don't like is it has IRS.

A little bit of Highlander in the rear??? It looks amazingly similar to the Highlander in back. I agree that the front end looks a lot like the Tundra also. I think it's clear what direction Toyota is heading with their SUVs. I fully expect the next generation 4Runner to have a close family resemblance. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, because I like the look of this new Sequoia.

I like the fact that toyota stuffed the 5.7L engine in there, but I still like my 4runner more. I'm sure the sequoia is great if you have a family, but so would the 63K Land cruiser.

Toyota's designs are clean and I'd take them over a chevy any day of the week.

Not horrible looking, but I don't like that titanium/silver color in general. Love to see what the other colors make it look like.

I am kind of leary of what the new 4Runner will look like though. I don't want a Soccer Mom-mobile which is part of why I went with my Sport with upgrading the tires. I may be surprised, but I don't think I will be.

Glad I bought my '07, though an '08 wouldn't have been bad.

I am too lazy to look up the specs, but is the Sequoia bigger than Land Cruiser?? Because apparently, the Sequoia is heavier (by 400-500 lbs)...so, that kinda goes against the Land Cruiser being "overbuilt" IF they are similar in size.

EDIT: Sequoia is about 10 in. longer, less than 2 in. wider...so, that may explain the 400-500 lbs difference.

This is just another example of "bigger is always better" thinking. I don't understand why the car companies are still making every new model bigger. Sometimes the current size is big enough.
I always thought the Sequoia was just a little too big. Now it's even larger.
At what point will any vehicle be big enough? (I believe that only in the U.S. the answer is "Never".)

Why not make it the same size and get better mileage?

JJ, the problem is that the Sequoia (like previous gen Tundra) was still too small for the American market. In my town, people buy big SUVs (Tahoes, Suburbans) as substitute for minivans. And as such, the previous Sequoia was viewed as being a tad too small.

Why not make it the same size and get better mileage?

Because the American marketplace still has the "bigger is better" mentality, despite recently rising fuel prices.

Honestly, I'm not sure if this will ever change, even if gas prices rise exponentially in the future. Personally, I could easily make due with a smaller vehicle, but my next vehicle will most like be as big (or bigger) than my 4Runner. With all the large vehicles on our roads, I like to be on a somewhat level playing field. That's why I refuse to drive a small car these days. Hell, I can't even see in any direction when I'm stuck in traffic and surrounded by SUVs/trucks/vans all over the road!

It carries the name and it's a good thing for the manufacturer as long as it was reputable model. Specifically, why Ford brought back the Taurus after trying the Five Hundred name. Like the current Corolla and Civic, they're probably as big as the original Camry and Accord, respectively. The manufacturer will make each generation bigger, so they can claim more room, blah blah and then introduce a smaller car to fill the void left by the model that grew with each generation. Yaris fills Toyota's small car niche and Fit fills Honda's.

I agree , I recently bought a Tahoe used 2000 for my dad and I. I like it although its not really a nice machine like my 4R since it has 95k on it , but when driving the view is a lot nicer than the 4R , can really see around because of its height. Feels bigger and safer to me. I will switch from Toyota from what I've seen so far as design goes and probably go back to a domestic , unless the new 4R or FJ are kick butt looking , but I doubt that will happen.

Like Thai said goes the same around here too , big trucks ... Tahoes , Burbs , Expeditions , Excursions , pick ups (mostly domestic buy seeing a lot of new Tundra popping up ) . The Avalanche seems to be pretty popular around here. The most dominate seem to be GM truck's and SUV's , seemed it kinda of shifted from Ford and Dodge that you saw 10 years ago. Just my observation though , no rhyme or reason why.

With the versatility of the pick up crew cab's that can haul familys and yet still haul crap around in a small box seems to be the thing here .

It is strange on how gas prices keep getting higher and higher and Americans buy up more bigger , faster more powerful trucks. We're so spoiled
