2008 Sport Edition Overland Project Vehicle

I recently purchased a 2008 Sport Edition as my family's new overland vehicle.

The project begins with a good foundation, suspension purchased from Metal Tech. A little present from Santa!

ICON 2.0 Rear Shocks with ICON Shinguards, Old Man Emu 895 Springs and Spidertrax 1.25" Wheel Spacers

As it sits with 2" lift and new tires. I've run the BFG AT's for years and loved them. I was going to buy a set for this vehicle but the MT's were hard to pass up. I'm looking forward to comparing them both.

Tires are BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM 255/75R17's good 'ol pizza cutters!

I also made sure to remove the XREAS shocks at the proper points in the system to avoid leaks. I'll later remove the whole system, but thankfully it all went smoothly and just took the better part of a Sunday afternoon to all bolt up!

Ha! no kidding! I have experienced both with the last overland vehicle I built.

Well, up next I'm putting in a National Luna Dual Battery System. I picked up a couple of the Die Hard Platinum Batteries last week for this. That way my CB and HAM radios, ARB Fridge, and aux lights can be powered. I like keeping the main battery in charge of just running the vehicle and everything else run off of the secondary battery.

Then the next project is vehicle storage and protection. I need a place to mount a winch, carry a full size spare, Hi-Lift, Gas cans, Axe, and Shovel on the exterior of the vehicle. I've been looking at the options out there and I think the Shrockworks front winch bumper and CBI's rear bumper are the ones I like best. I'm still up in the air on what roof rack to go with. I'm looking at GOBI, Front Runner, and BAJA Rack. I'm tossing around the idea of a roof top tent from CVT so that narrows my rack options. I also want to plumb in some kind of heat exchanger for hot showers and figure out a good rear cargo storage system.

Through out all of this building the most important plans are to just get out on the trail and enjoy it!

For now I left them at the factory setting which I think is around 2\\\\" of lift. I'm going to adjust the drivers side a turn or two to compensate for the left lean. But I'm going to wait to do this when I get the front bumper and winch on and then see how it sits.

I went with a/t's and kind of wish I would have done the m/t's but oh well.

This was the previous vehicle that I recently sold after 312,000 rock solid reliable miles!

The last trip in this vehicle was the entire WABDR and then back down to the Overland Rally this last summer.

So did you snag that rack off the subie before you sold it? That would be a good start. Props on the subie though that thing looks like fun! Your gonna love the power and roominess of the t4r vs the subie. On the flip side the subie was much cheaper to mod and repair. Lol
