2008 V8 lift scenario

Hi all,

I apologize for posting about a lift subject as there are plenty of threads addressing the topic, but I am in a not-so-common scenario.

My xreas suspension recently took a crap and needed my truck to go back to school, I had to make suspension decisions in a timely manner. I acquired take-off Tacoma trd pro shocks (without the spring) from FB marketplace. Those were installed using the OEM springs. For the rears, I bought new bilstein 4600 series. The rake is about the same as before, with my rear wheel wells having 2 inches of added height over the front.

The guys over at toytec told me puc lifts wouldn't work with the trd pro take offs in the front (as they apparently cant handle a lift). The 4600s from research can handle up to a 2 inch lift.

Toytec recommended to me I go with 5100 coilovers. I wish to keep my 4600s in the rear, while open to getting rid of front takeoffs.

My goal is to lift the truck as much as safely possible while keeping the rear 4600 (while getting rid of the rake) What are my options?

Side note, I do believe I will elect to have a front dif mount drop installed.

So . . . will you be doing any off roading or application where you need a longer wheel travel

1. 4600s are designed for non lifted applications, so I would be wary about lifting too much. again you can do 2 inches, if just on road. Off road, your strut will be over extended and wont have the travel for a comfortable ride.
- You can put longer springs on the back, but again you'll need a longer strut unless you dont really care about ride quality and are all on good pavement
- Consider longer toytec springs, 5th gen 4runner springs will give you about an inch over stock 4th gen, though the V8 may weight it down more

2. 5100s will probably be your cheapest option. The tacoma struts are designed for lower weights, and not the V8 and arent designed to handle much lift

I am 40 minutes from AOAA (a 6500 acre off road park in PA), so I was hoping to go somewhat frequently. sounds like I made a mistake and will have to save up for a proper setup.

I’m running TRD Pro (Bilstein 6112) shocks with a Cornfed spacer. Have had no issues on or off-road
