Is the suspension on your 2008 original from factory? How many miles on the truck?
The 5th gen is bigger and heavier and suspension components have been beefed up to reflect that. Without the ability of reading Toyota's mind, it may be that they tried to keep as soft as possible in a sea of crossovers to hide it's truck dna from potential buyers.
I have KDSS on mine and it feels busier and more taut than the SR5 rental I drove before it.
There are some threads out comparing the two suspensions, but they may not provide insight into what your "feeling" when comparing the two.

Your 2008 Ltd probably had xreas on it which makes for tighter cornering, less body roll, and a stiffer ride. The 2016 SR5 doesn't have KDSS nor xreas so it's gonna feel more "floaty" for better or worse.

I too just made the switch from a non-Xreas 2007 to a 2016 TE with KDSS. The ride in the new truck is much softer with a lot of lean in the corners and brake dive. It does handle the bumps nicely though.

On the 4th gens only the Sport editions had the xreas. The SR5 and Limited used the standard suspension.

It was optional on Limiteds, standard on Sports.
