2010 4Runner Rear Wheel Alignment Specs

Hi All,
First, I am new here so please forgive me if I post this in incorrect forum.
I just had an accident where I got hit by a chevy truck at the rear left of the vehicle. the damages were the left rear tire, wheel and of course the body. after the body work done with a new tire and wheel, the alignment report showed that the 2 front wheels and the right rear wheel were right on zero degrees for both camber and toe. the left wheel, where it got hit, showed -0.4 degrees for camber and -0.67 degree for toe. the body shop confirmed that this is normal. Knowing that there is no specs on the rear wheel so any numbers would be normal. I started calling toyota dealers around and i got no anwsers. I also called several alignment shops : NTB, Firestone, and one of the tire wheel alignment shop local here and they all said that too much. My concern here is that those answers are just opinion because there is no specs on it. where do we draw the line so we can tell good or bad. I still beleive that toyota has to have something to base on to verify this. in other words, can i have one of the rear wheel toe in 2 degree and we call it good? they should have something as part of procedure or quality to follow. I tried to search online, called dealers, called toyota support center, but I still have no answers. So I would hope that someone in here or know someone that have the answer, please help. your help is much appreciated. Even your opinon on how to handle this issue would be very helpful.

Second, glad to see that you are ok. (Actually you didnt mention this, but I am assuming, since you are typing).

One addition note that I called Toyota center to request some sort of historical data on the vehicle from manuafactor. I got no luck on that.

Thanks Nashman and Harper7. I cound not find specs or any data regarding to the rear axle at all. I might need to look into the axle itself. I beleive that Toyota must have some kinda specs for that when they build the vehicle.
 
I looked thru the repair manual and couldn't find anything on the rear alignment specs either.

Did the chevy truck hit that wheel and what other damage was done to that area? Maybe the axle or hub got bent .In theory , if the axle and hub are straight(within limits) ,then the rear wheels should be straight .

The rear wheels are really what they align the front wheels to and there is no alignment adjustment for the rears.It's a 4 bar link straight axle suspension in the rear.They shoot the laser to the rear wheels and align the fronts off that.

Here's the inspection of the rear axle from the Repair Manual.
1. INSPECT REAR AXLE SHAFT
(a) Using a dial indicator, measure the rear axle shaft runout and flange runout.
Maximum runout:
Shaft runout: 1.50 mm (0.0591 in.)
Flange runout: 0.05 mm (0.00197 in.)
If the rear axle shaft or flange is damaged or worn, or the runout is more than the maximum, replace the rear axle shaft.

I got hit on that side, the damage was the tire, wheel , the fender and the bumper.
I actually not quite understand those 2 terms you mentioned. I will look into that. How about the axle housing? like you said, I either have axle bend or the surface mount bend. what is your opinon on the numbers? I can live with -.4 camber, but -.67 toe is too much. the car will be no long stable (safety) with snow or ice.

I'm looking for the stock wheel aligment spec in the repair manual. It list X-Runner and S-Runner. Which one is the Limited?
 
Another thing to check is axle side-to-side positioning. A hit on the side might have bent the panhard bar or link rods shifting the axle one way or the other. If it has, then tracking will be off increasing tire wear and reducing traction. There is not spec for this, you would just have to measure (with some sort of sighting tool) the distance between the rim or hub and a fixed point on the frame for each side.

I would evaluate your so called "just opinions" as follows...and they can be opinions based on auto mechanic principals.

Any excessive toe-in or toe-out will cause a distinctive tire wear pattern, any excessive camber will cause distinctive tire wear pattern, quite different from toe in/out. . Google the web for "wheel alignment tire wear"

Go back and demand the insurance company fix the axle, or fix the frame, or sue the other driver directly if the insurance company refused. Send the parties a letter asap indicating your intention to pursue the issue at a later time because the repair is not satisfactory, and you want an independent opinion other than the body shop.. (of course they will say no issue at all !!)

The camber and toe-in values at the back should be less than the front specs... Caster will not affect tire wear, just the steering control/feel
