Interestingly it says the GX 3rd row will now be fold flat like an Expedition, so I presume the 4Runner would get this too on models equipped with the 3rd row??

IIRC, the 1st gen GX went into production in November of 2002, a couple months after production had already begun on the 4th gen T4R. So if history repeats itself then the 5th gen T4R should begin production in August or September of '09.

Fold flat 3rd row would suggest an Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) rather than the current solid axle.

That's the same thing I was thinking. I don't see any way to find enough space for foldflats unless they use an IRS.

Hopefully it means the 4Runner lives on (with its true heritage and roots), despite the tough times the auto industry is facing.
