2010 SR5 price from dealer today

Wow, that was one long detailed post :) The reason I said not to pay some of the 'fees' he had listed was because I did not have to, so why should he? Just because he is in a dfferent state?

Let me just say this, I have the same 4R he is getting, but also have:
- Roof Rack Cross Bars
- Wheel Locks
- Floor/Cargo Mat
- Rear Cargo Cover
- AC Oulets (I belive he might have that in his package though too)
- Full Tank of Fuel

and my OTD price was $2,000 LESS than his, and I have seen better deals than mine.

According to your signature...

2010 SR5 Magnetic Gray Metallic
Leather Package, Sunroof, Front & Rear AC Outlets, XM Radio, USB, IPod, Bluetooth, Backup Cam, Sliding Rear Deck, Floor/Cargo Mats, Wheel Locks, Cross Bars, Cargo Cover

you have the sliding tray and AZDPS stated that he has option TI - Leather 3rd Row. That difference comes to roughly $1000+ MSRP even taking into consideration that AZDPS did not pay $350 MSRP for the sliding tray. He also shows PN - Anti Theft $220 MSRP although he does not have some of the Dealer/Port-Installed Options that you do (wheel locks, cross bars, etc.)

These are not exact figures because it looks like your options (based on how they are listed in your signature) are individual options whereas his options include a lot of yours by "packaging" rather than piecemeal, therefore pricing is probably a little different.

TI includes Leather, 3rd Row, Heated Power Seats
CP includes Sunroof, Front & Rear AC Outlets
DJ includes XM Radio, USB, IPod, Bluetooth

Like someone said earlier, it is hard to simplify this all down to apples-apples.

Regardless of the actual vehicle price - these added charges are frickin nuts. They are trying to get you to pay a Dealer Holdback charge - WTF... I'd be running away from them before they tried to get their hands on my wallet.

02/27/10

...There were other charges that I've never heard of before...

$680.00 TDA (Toyota Dealer Advertisement)

$10.30 Gasoline

$618.00 Dealer Holdback

$309.00 Whsl. Financial Reserve

I was given a quick run down on these additional charges. Apparently TDA is costs associated with Toyota's advertisements and the dealer doesn't retain this money but it goes to Toyota Corp. Dealer Holdback was for building expenses or something along those lines, and Whsl. Finalcial Reserve was the cost associated with keeping vehicles on location.

Are these valid charges they should be charging me for? Or can I tell them to rethink the offer and get rid of those extra charges?

For whatever reason, the dealer showed him the actual cost of the vehicle from the manufacturer ($27205). That doesn't include any sort of overhead or anything at the dealer level. The holdback and financial reserve are built into the dealer's "invoice to the customer" cost because these fees basically allow the dealer to keep the lights on and keep some sort of inventory. $27205 is what the dealer pays for the vehicle from the manufacturer. $28132 is the invoice after the dealer has taken *some* overhead into account.

Do you demand that Best Buy sell an ipod to you at their cost?

I agree exactly. The only time you have to balk at extra costs is when they try and add advertising costs or holdback costs ontop of the MSRP. This dealership seems to have actually showed something pretty close to what there actual invoice is. I'll say it again, you look to have a really good deal here(better than mine) and I'd go for it.

You can't expect a car dealership to loose money or just break even selling cars.

I did not pay any advertising charges. The other comments are absolutely right on the holdback and other charges.

I used Edmunds to shop the deal to a number of dealers in my area and the experience was good. The dealer I picked made it really easy and I was happy with the experience. The deal sounded so good that I called another dealer friend of mine to see if I was missing something. He told me to go grab it.

In my experience all you have to do is ask the sales consultant to show the Vehicle Inquiry Report (Invoice) of the particular vehicle you are interested in. I don't think they are REQUIRED to show it to you, but I made it very clear that unless I got a copy of it, I would not be doing business with that dealership.

This can be a little tricky if your dealership does not have the exact vehicle that you have your eye on (dealer trade/transfer) or if you plan to order. What you can do is to ask to see the report of a similarly equipped vehicle. At the very least ask to see a "loaded out" vehicle that has the options you want so you can get your baseline invoice prices for options. Edmunds and KBB seem to have an almost 100% correct representation of these prices, but with Toyota, the Regions differ slightly on what options are available and exact prices, that is why you dont see pricing on stuff like running boards, cross bars, etc. on those sites, but you will get these amounts on your Vehicle Inquiry Report.

Where all of this information helps you is when a sales consultant lies to your face and says, "This is the best we can do, we're not making anything on this deal." Or he says "This is $500 over invoice."

A word of advice, the Edmunds Invoice pricing that I have seen on Toyotas does not include the Advertising fee. If you go in guns blazing demanding Edmunds Invoice, they will more than likely show you the door. That is unless, they are prepared to eat the advertising costs. Also, in this scenario, you would in fact be paying WFR and Holdback since it is figured into base price on Edmunds, even though they will not be itemized typically on your offer sheets.

The dealer I picked made it really easy and I was happy with the experience. The deal sounded so good that I called another dealer friend of mine to see if I was missing something. He told me to go grab it.

That is my overall litmus test for a good deal. If I walk away happy thinking I got a good deal, then, I got a good deal. People who leave a dealership thinking they got raped are usually not repeat customers.

Since my SR5 was supposed to be available tomorrow, I called the dealer to talk price. They will only reduce the price $750 below MSRP. I'm thinking of shopping for a different type of vehicle. I have to think hard about whether having the 4Runner is worth paying an inflated price caused by the fact that there are no 4x4s around. I hate being ripped off, so at the moment, I'm thinking of buying something other than a Toyota.

There are dealers in TX that will give pretty good deals. Try San Marcos Toyota- Andrew. He'll give you a good price no hassle over email and you can order what you want. He gave me about 2K off sticker.

Or John Porterfield with Champion Toyota Austin. PorterfieldJ@ autonation.com
He's with the huge dealer network Autonation and might be able to get you a 4x4 easier than some other small dealers. He gave me about 1.5K off sticker.

If your in Houston or Dallas there are more dealers so the pricing should be better than my Austin market.

Thank you. I'll give that a try. I'm in the Hill Country and tried the three dealers in S.A. The challenge is finding a 4x4.

I tried the San Antonio dealers and they are all re****ed, don't even bother with them. San Marcos is closest and thats where I finally decided to order. Andrew placed a dealer preference request for me and got it on the second try(about a month). I am getting exactly what I wanted with no port installed fluff options.

Tell him Brad Jenkins sent you and maybe he'll cut some $$ off of when I go to pick mine up next week. :fro:

Will do. I'll call him tomorrow. My problem is that I am without wheels, renting a car right now.$$$ I don't have the luxury of waiting a month or more.

Just checked.DFW area has 6 Limiteds in 4x4 and 1 Trail in mag gray. They just sold the red and black trails. That's it!

Gulf States is showing about 10 SR5 4x4's with varying options. If you have a dealer that you think will negotiate a little with you, just have them transfer it. I have not been able to figure out how to see where these trucks are other than having a dealer look for it using the VIN that is listed on the site. Might try to Google the VIN and see if anything comes up. Good Luck.

Also, you can look up dealers from different areas of Gulf States Here.

Red Mccombs Toyota in SA has Blizzard Pearl SR5 4x4. I had alot of trouble with their internet sales group and was actually contacted by the Director of Sales for the entire Red Mccombs dealership network. Here is her info if your having trouble working with there internet group. I never actually got anything worked out with them as far as pricing because of their incompetence... But working with her directly may yield better results.

You might try checking neighboring states.. I talked to a couple of dealers in NM and ended up buying from Kansas, I'll meet the dealer halfway and drive the rest back to Lubbock. Ended up paying $2700 under MSRP with a 2.95% APR for 60 mo. through Toyota.

2010 SR5 4WD / Blizzard Pearl / Black Leather

MSRP $36,304

PAID $33,606 plus tax/title in TX at 6.25%

Eddy's Toyota - Wichita, KS (Jerome)

Would have been $425 to have it trailered 500 mi. to Lubbock from Wichita. Dealer is going to meet me halfway to save the shipping.

Whiskeycop need your help

i just got quoted for a special order Limited Blizzard in NE today with third row seat.

I understand edmunds doesnt include this TDA cost which is shear bs. Never paid that on my other toyota's

Here is what edmunds quoted me as (invoice prices)
Limted 4x4 base - 36,218
Nav system - 1,215
3rd Row seat - 812
destination - 800
Special color -176
Total Price - 39221

I offered 600 over invoice. so that comes to 39821

Here is what dealer sent me.
base 35024
Nav 1216
3rd row seat 812
destination 800
Color 176

TDA 788
Gasoline 10.3
Holdback 796
WFR 398

total price 40020.3 if I am correct. so final price $40,620

is this the best I can get. I told them 600 OVER invoice, and I see about a $799 discrepancy (the gas and TDA). What is this and why should I or anyone pay?
all comments welcome
