2010 TE Crossbars issues

No sorry for the confusion , what I meant was the rails on mine are exactly same length & only thing I'm aware of is the way they mount inside their individual bracket with those tiny screws up/down . I wouldn't think Toy would change that because of cross models would be to much hassle ? I think front only applies to direction cross bars should face for aerodynamics ?

The rails on my 2011 trail are different lengths, I am positive because I found out the hard way, I got them mixed up when I drilled the bar out for my lights,

Do the crossbars have any part numbers on them? You should have: PT278-89102 not PT278-89100. The instructions for the 89102's specifically says that the rear bar is shorter than the front bar. I found the instructions here:

I kind of sounds like you may have two front bars.

Man I find that odd !

I've done some more search, the PT278-89102 is listed as a specific TE crossbars and are different length and can be remove from the rack without removing the end caps while the PT278-89100 are for the SR5 and Limited with the same length and not adjustable, and you have to remove the end caps because the crossbars are not detachable from the brackets.

Read the installation PDF:
Toyota - ROOF RACK CROSS BAR KIT (SR5 MODEL) Part Number: PT278-89100
Toyota - ROOF RACK CROSS BAR KIT (TRAIL EDITION) Part Number: PT278-89102

c0astie31 Can you measure the length of your rear crossbar? I'm curious.

So basically, I think I may have 2 front crossbars from a TE. If I remember, the PO bought the truck when they released it and I'm sure someone somewhere missed that and since the PO didn't use it he did not try to fix that under the warranty...

Ya I see that one says long & short ! I just ordered this TE rack for my 11 so I'm gonna ask my parts guy the deal here tomorrow ? Curious that it would be narrower in the rear , maybe for better load distribution IDK sorry if I fuqd you up man !!!

The TE roof rails are not parallel, while the SR5 are. That's why the crossbars of a TE are adjustable (top nut) and are apparently not the same length...

Guess I'm gonna find out ! Getting so I can mount up the rola vortex rack on it , won't work with sr5 rack & the armor tech mod brackets will post when I get it together .

I'm not a fabricator, I've disassemble the crossbars and was ready to chop it off. But with the way it is designed it's not a simple fix.

I'm not a fabricator either, but I guess if it comes down to modifying one crossbar and possibly having to buy a new one because I screwed it up or buying a new one because the existing one doesn't work for the application, I'd risk screwing it up, but like I said, that's me.

I didn't pay to much attention to what mine looked like but I think it's just an aluminum tube with a couple of threaded inserts to mount the end cap. My initial thought would be to cut 1/2" off one end, drill some new holes, and try to epoxy/jb weld a couple of nuts in there. I wouldn't think there'd be a lot of stress on those two bolts, they seem to be mainly there to hold the end cap in place.

Of course, before doing this, I'd also want to see if I could get just one crossbar.

It also may be easier to buy a new crossbar kit and try and sell the two fronts. There maybe someone(s) interested in an extra front bar.

I am away right now at school but I know that when I try to put the fwd one in as the back one it is way to big,

I could be wrong, right now I have the aft in in fwd and it is hard to get it all the way to the front without hitting it

I made the mistake thinking they were the same when I drilled it to mount my lights

Take some measurements and post back here when you get it installed. It will be interesting to know if it's the mounts that aren't parallel or the rails.

So finally I've got some time to cut the rear crossbar to make it fit. I've made the cut in the middle of the 2 metal screw, removing about 1/2 inch, and redrill 1 hole for the screw. Now I can move the rear crossbar from the rear of the roof rack to about the middle. So now the rack is more useful than ever!

Thanks for everyone that help me with the issue!
