I own a 4th gen and personally I prefer the look of the 3rd gen. But I prefer the size, power, and amenities of the 4th gen. It doesn't bother me that he doesn't like the design of the 4th gen.

Me too. I owned a 3rd gen before my current 4th. My favorite exterior was the 3rds with no body cladding, but I had to accept the cladding to get the 4wd system I wanted. The 3rd gen interior was better too. But the 4th gen drivetrain (mine is 4wd v8) is fantastic.

I find the 5th gen styling to be acceptable. Way better than the 2003 was at first. The things I don't like are all functional: the extra weight and size, the lower tow rating, the lack of 4lo/unlocked mode, the lack of full-time-4wd on the SR5, the 20" wheels on the Limited. I gave up buying vehicles on looks long ago.

Why are they even offering the Highlander and RAV4? The two are so similar in size now. The RAV4 has grew so much that it's almost wrong to say the CR-V is its competitor. They might as well drop one of these, considering both of them offer three row seating and the same V6.

Don't forget the Venza...i have no idea what Toyota was thinking!

this is my beef about the lack of standard drivetrain/CDL across all three trim levels: a $40k Trail Edition "boasting" a 90s-era part-time 4WD system. back to its roots? how about back to the pipe, Toyota... wtf??!!

This is one of the reasons I want someone knowledgeable to get one. I want to know how much bigger you could go on the stock rims w/o rubbing. Or what they largest are you could get on some 17's.

Supposedly the Limited doesn't have it. The pictures I've seen of the Trail and SR5, they don't have it either. So is it powered, or does it get deleted if you get the NAV?

I've seen some pictures with what looks to be a retracted mast antennae on the right front fender. I simply can not believe they are selling a vehicle with a mast antennae in this day and age. The wind noise alone is a reason not to.

I think they all have it, it's not powered, and it's only "deleted" when they take a picture...

Exactly. They unscrew the mast antenna to photograph...and at car shows.

The Limited they had at the Texas State Fair had a nav system and also had the nub for the mast antenna on the right side. See the pic I posted in the other thread. I remember looking down at one of the 4Runners (don't remember which) and seeing a screw hole. My bet is they're all non-powered.
