wow, look how mean the Trail Edition looks in black, as compared to the SR5. For fun, I'll add the blue limited for contrast.

Overall, I like the aggressive look of the trail, the black separation on the headlights is pretty cool. The sr5 and the limited are too, blah.
Still, I agree it looks like a sequoia and fj cruiser mix, but its not that bad. If you think about all the yota styling of today, it matches. This is just the look that they are going for right now, and in that context, its not bad. I also hate the scoop. It reflects the sun straight into my eyes and I just hate the stupid scoops. It's not like they serve a purpose anyway. Overall, I still think that 2nd and 3rd gen are the best in terms of looks. I'm really diggin the V6 and expect they will add the v8 option in a year or so. Toyota has always been slow and cautious with their engines. The tundra was the biggest leap they ever made and now they just want to take it slow again.
Besides, even though you can technically get a 4 cyl, its not like any dealers are going to have any on the lot.
those lights are asking for trouble. its like they want them to be smashed. Oh well, just another excuse to get a new bumper!
I don't like the interior either. It does look cheap and plasticy. 3rd gen is my personal fav - it would have been nice if it could have been a mix of the 3rd gen and the fj 80. ironic how the best looking ones are all in about the same time period...
Maybe if I had enough money, I'd trade my 91 for this new guy, but only if I could get rid of that scoop and get a v8.

Actually, there are reviews stating just the opposite about the new I4 for the 2009 and 2010 RAV. One is entitled "No V6 needed here..."
Yet I believe that the new I4 in the RAV is more powerful than the one for the new 4Runner!

Well, now that I've had a few days to really look over all the information & pics on the 5th gen, I think I'll have to eventually say goodbye to Toyota and join the Jeep camp. I love my 4th gen and have no plans to sell it, but when the time comes to buy another SUV, Toyota will not be a consideration.

but jeep!! Absolutely Not! but a slim chance of the 09 wrangler but next purchase will most likely be an FJ or a Tacoma.

i agree. pretty spendy for a vehicle that, while adding some standard niceties (i.e., rear e-locker), conspicuously removes other highly indispensable features (torsen center diff). :lightsaber:

Nope... I e-mailed their Communications Director and their stance is that the new V6 is equal or better than the 4.x V8, so there is no need for a V8.
Of course that is probably the party line and doesn't mean much.
No they don't and no one outside of Toyota knows that their plans are.
Solid front axle? Then their sales of 2-3000 4Runners per month would drop to 500 per month.
Solid front axles have their benefits offroad, but have severe penalties on the road, which is where 99.99% of 4Runner spend their time.

The people who are that serious about off road driving to put up with a solid front axle want something with better angles. Something like a Wrangler Rubicon, not something as big as a 4Runner.

Ehhh idk about that. Land cruisers (80 series)are one of the best off-roaders there are.
