I can't figure out what the right drivetrain knob above the mirror is. The one on the left is crawl control. Is the one on the right KDSS control? Where are the 4WD controls?

The Trail grade also features a Multi-Terrain Select system which allows the 4x4 operator to dial in wheel slip control to match the terrain. In loose terrain such as mud and sand, more-than-normal wheel slip is permitted, allowing wheel-spin to work in the vehicle’s favor. On bumpy moguls, or solid rock, wheel slip is minimized and the system acts more like a limited slip. The Mogul setting is for any extremely uneven terrain, such as V-ditches, slopes, and ridges, uphill or down.

It doesn't look bad at all except the wheels on the TE, they remind of wheels from a 1990's era ford explorer. Does anyone here know if there are optional wheels available?

My guess is no. Toyota usually puts specific wheels on each trim level and doesn't typically offer options. But that won't stop everyone from going with aftermarket wheels. Yes, the wheels on the Trail are big time ugly, maybe the ugliest wheels OEM wheels I've seen on a 4Runner in a long time. A nice set of round hole **** Cepek wheels would probably look really good on the new Trail Edition.

No optional wheels are available on the TE.

Exterior - those wheels look like a throwback to the 80's...were these in the spy pics? I do like the foglights.

Interior - Like the overhead console. Like the extensions in the sun visors. real cupholders. wait...what? No trashbag holder for the back seat?? j/k

Party Mode is interesting:

A “party mode” setting raises the bass and transfers the equalization to the rear of the vehicle to provide excellent outside audio for tailgating. Party mode benefits from rear hatch-mounted speakers and is actuated by a switch, installed in the instrument panel to the right of the driver’s seat (rear hatch speakers function with, or without, party mode).

And to think, my college football tailgating events will be so much better now

Very disappointing to see that the fuel tank still hangs very low, Toyota could've easily used the fuel tank of the FJ. The low hanging fuel tank on my 4Runner is always the first to scrap even on minor off road excursions, it is very annoying. I rather live with a smaller fuel tank that is tucked up in the frame and with a shorter driving range instead of having a bashed up fuel tank. It would be nice if Toyota offered the smaller more protected fuel tank on the TE version.

I don't think that the FJ fuel tank is any higher than the 4runner's. It is just that Toyota chop off the front end and re-contoured it so that the breakover angle is better.

I like everything about the new 4runner except for the 4wd system and the fact that A LOT OF STUFF still hangs below frame height! I know that 4runners have always had this issue...but Xterras, Pathfinders, Jeeps, etc. are finding ways to tuck up the belly to frame height and still have a low step-in height. The Xterra's underbelly is very clean compared to the 4runner. I was quite impress with the Xterra's underbody recently when i went shopping for my father's truck.

The crazy thing is that after looking at all of the high-res. pics on Toyota's site...I like the Limited best. I just cant seem to force myself to like all the cheap black plastics on the Trail, and I hate how cheap the interior looks without the leather steering wheel/shift knob, no push button start, ect.. The seats in the Trail look so plain too. I think my best solution is to buy a Limited and cut away the lower portion of the front bumper with a dremel, swap out the wheel/tire package for some meatier tires and a small lift once someone makes them available.

I like how it looks. I really wish though it had manual transmission and that in Canada it wasn't full time 4WD. I like to be able to select 2WD as well.

If I had a choice, I would get the Nissan if I had the money to buy another vehicle right now. It all boils down to the fact that I would much rather drive manual than automatic. If I was filthy rich though, I'd actually look into seeing if the FJ Cruiser drive train would fit in the new 4Runner.

I agree, a little mud on the wheels and some dirty mud terrain tires make it look a lot better!

Plus the roof rack is missing, which might actually make it look better too!

Yep,but is it still X-rated? Does it still bump and clunk,moan and groan with a little vibratin' thrown in? Do the seats pop, snap and jiggle. Can you shift into 4WD on the fly when you want to, not when the system decides to. I know three people with the 6Cyl 2/4WD and they all have problems with the transfer into 4WD. Had to help one out of the sand as his never shifted in time and got stuck.
I will wait a year to see just what Toyota actually corrected and what new issues develop...

Well I must retract my previous statement (s)! Looks nice, I like how they put the trim back on the C pillar like they used to. They threw on 265/70 stock too. Pity they got rid of the multi-mode 4wd though. TE + SR5 wheels = sex
