2010+ TRD Supercharger

A connector? I call BS.

Why won't they release ANY info about his s/c if it is ready for production? If it is ready, then they should be singing from the rooftops about it's greatness.

I feel like an abuse victim that keeps coming back for more and more. I check this damn thread every time it gets bumped. Shame on me. :smashputer:

Following the production of this 5th Gen S/C has been series of failed promises, followed by vague details, then more failed promises.

I spoke to Gadget at the Summit and he said the same thing: Toyota is blocking his access to the connectors, and he can't do anything else on it without them.

Pure speculative guess here:

Perhaps the recently released CAFE standards have them screwed up.

I know CAFE standards have no bearing on fitting a Supercharger after the sale, but the E85 fuel is the method auto manufacturer's have for getting around CAFE standards and their pending restrictions. E85 vehicles will receive credits, artificially increasing their mileage to meet the new standards.

Ethanol and CAFÉ standards ? Money for Nothing

I imagine within a few years will be E85 flex fuel compliant to take advantage of this loophole. I'm guessing this adds a significant hurdle for an add-on supercharger, particularly if the owner actually fills with E85.

The TRD guys I spoke to said that CAFE is running the show now at Toyota - hence no V8 in the 4Runner and probably a reason why the FJ is going away. The comment was made: "Do you know how many Priuses Toyota has to sell to get one Tundra on the road?"

this one:

This is the supercharger on Ted Moncure's (Chief Engineer for TRD) 4Runner. He has this, plus the TRD wheels we saw on the Tacmoa last year (also mentioned in this thread), and a new prototype suspension that is miles beyond anything Toyota puts on the trucks now.

Myself, joneseyyy, and wdlsmaerw got to ride in the truck with Ted as he showed us how it could perform. The one that is in his truck is pulling 350 HP / 350 ftlbs, but the one that will be released will likely have something like 335-340 HP and 350 ftlbs. I was *very* impressed with the performance of the truck. Keep in mind, my truck runs around as a daily driver at just shy of 6,000lbs, so a stock truck has much more pep than what I've got. But, Ted's truck hauled ass. All three of us had to grab on to something when Ted was taking it around turns! I wasn't expecting much from it, and I wasn't very interested in a supercharger until I took the ride. After the ride: I'm sold.

Ted mentioned they were having issues with emissions regulations; California was specifically mentioned a couple of times (ironic, since that's where all the testing is being done!). But, he was optimistic that they'd have a solution by the end of the year.

Also, wdlsmaerw has a video of their announcement this year that he'll post soon, I'm sure.

Tell more about the suspension? Was it a TRD lift? Or just performace based stock height?

Stock height. Coilover in the front and piggyback in the rear. The suspension is using the same components as the Tacoma Baja Edition they debuted last year, but they are valved differently. The truck does not move when braking or cornering - no more body roll or nose dive. Unfortunately, Ted said that they don't have plans to produce the suspension right now.

I will be interested in the price...

The numbers are good, keeping the warranty is good, however, I'm guessing north of $4,500 + installation by a Toyota dealer so north of $6k when all is said and done. That high a price will keep me from playing.

Ted said price for hardware will be just shy of $6k.

The price is what it it is. As long as its reasonable and less than a V8 conversion, I'd sign up for one.

I'm with you, at this point its do this supercharger or get a GX460. I can't stand being dead in the water on the road, and this is cheaper than the GX.

While I'm a hotrod guy at heart and more power is always a good thing, it's definitely "wanted" power as opposed to "needed." I have yet to hit a situation where the 4R didn't have enough get up and go when called upon, I just prefer to torque characteristics of a V8.

If we assume the SC takes hp up to 330hp and stock is 270hp then $133/hp... Comparing to the GX is hard, because if you are a SR5 guy like me, moving up to the GX gets me a lot more than a V8.

So probably just north of $8k installed... to rich for my blood, especially when there are a lot of fun cars that could be purchased for $8k.

Everyone has a different definition of reasonable :)

Here is a little poem I wrote:

"The Search for Super Power"

Five to six "k",
I'm on my way.
If it's eight "k",
It'll end my day.

When talking with the TRD guy, did he mention anything about the amount of boost in the system?

There is a post in the FJ Forums that is quoting 8 PSI to get that 60 crank HP gain. Is that actually he case?

Why does it sound like you already know the answer? And
Let me guess, the one TRD doesn’t offer for sale is no good, and the one that URD doesn’t offer for sale is much better!
